I am home. I also found home at Plum Village monastery in Bordeaux France where I just returned from. It was a Climate and Nature Community gathering with 160 representing a broad spectrum of action in the climate and nature space. No networking-No cell phones-no lobbying for a cause or outcome- no fundraising-no written conclusions or summarizing report. Period. It was a retreat to learn together how to embrace suffering and cultivate personal and professional resilience. There were many raindrops of tears shed to be certain. The shared learning experience and mutual support as we confronted the challenges together was one of the most valuable aspects of the retreat. I invite you to join me and hundreds of others who have signed up for the 7 week online course 20th October - 8 December with the monastics from #PlumVillage and #ChristianaFigueres from #GlobalOptimism I hope my linked in friends and community join us. If not now? when? Details: Do you have a deep sense of care for the Earth, and want to find ways to bring mindfulness to your climate response? This new online journey harnesses the wisdom of Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh to teach us how to face challenging feelings and create a sense of freedom and possibility. It is designed to empower the human resilience we need to face our current situation. Course registration is now open for the next course which will run from 20th October until 8th December 2024 Free online taster event Join Sister True Dedication, Brother Phap Huu, and Christiana Figueres on 1st October at 7:30pm CET for a free online course taster session exploring mindfulness and climate action. Learn more and register here. #heartsintheice #Strategytogether

What a voyage we just had in the Arctic onboard the MS Nordstjernen- the same vessel that dropped us off for our 19 month Expedition 5 years ago! What happens when purpose converges and change catalyses? Magic! Inspired conversation! Collaboration on goals! Community building! And renewed commitment to take bold action. Our problems globally are Enormous, our solutions need to be scaled up to meet the problems. Leadership looks like YOU! All of us matter and we (HITI) are proof that one person can in fact make a difference. Huge thanks to all of the amazing leaders that joined us for our Climate Summit and Expedition Voyage. Stay tuned for what is next! #KitJackson #HeartsintheIce #Cellsignal #1%forthePlanet #Polarambassadors #StrategyTogether

Strategy mapper. Strategic advisor. Business, leadership & life coach. Culture creator and change maker.

Hearts in the Ice is a bold collaboration initiated by two highly regarded and awarded polar explorer-ambassadors seeking to educate, inspire and activate individual, organisational and systemic change to arrest the climate change trajectory and impact.   In October 2019, Hilde Falun Strøm and Sunniva Sorby were the first women to overwinter alone in Bamsebu, a trappers' hut in the high Arctic in extremely basic conditions, surviving months of darkness in polar bear territory. Due to the pandemic, what was planned to be nine months turned into 19 months. During this time, they collected valuable data through citizen science projects, being ideally positioned while other scientists were unable to travel. Their purpose was to raise global awareness and dialogue on the impacts of climate change. Since then, their story has inspired others from all over the world to connect and collaborate with them on their mission. In the last five years, their impact and reach have been extraordinary, and their network is legendary. Once again, this year, a group of high-impact Arctic Ambassadors and climate activists convened in Longyearbyen for a conference and expedition voyage in the Arctic Svalbard Archipelago. It aimed to create a space where purpose converged and change catalysed. We shared insights, results, hopes and opportunities. We returned to the trappers' hut Bamsebu, and experienced the massive glacier retreat, loss of sea ice and the impact it has on us all and in particular, the polar bears. We saw the exquisite beauty, fragility and resilience of the Arctic landscape and its wildlife. We felt viscerally the need for change at scale. Experiencing this first hand spurred our conversations, collaborations and commitments. I leave the Arctic alarmed yet energised to collaborate with the Hearts in the Ice Community to amplify the messages, elevate the impact of our leadership and accelerate systemic change towards a more sustainable future. We are stronger together! As Jane Goodall says, “What you do makes a difference, and you have to decide what kind of difference you want to make.” #heartsintheice #polarambassadors #sunnivasorby #hildefalunstrom #strategytogether #strategicleadership #personalstrategybykit #polarbearsinternational #homewardboundprojects #Cell Signaling Technology (CST) #1% for the Planet

Its happening! The time is here: After 2.5 years of planning and collaborating with community members from Cambridge Bay Hearts in the ice is proud to share that - it's happening. Below is the flyer created to reach the youth and the Press Release announcing the goals. ******** For Immediate Release Hearts in the Ice Announces Elder-Led Youth Survival Camp IQ in Cambridge Bay Cambridge Bay, Nunavut July 29th 2024– Hearts in the Ice (HITI) is excited to announce the upcoming Elder-led Youth Survival Camp IQ, set to take place late July-early August 2024.  This initiative is to help bridge the gap between Elders and youth to help the transfer of invaluable traditional knowledge to the next generation. By aligning this transfer with practical training in modern scientific and multimedia disciplines, the project equips our youth with the skills, knowledge, and abilities to thrive in a changing environment. Hosted in a Location called Foggy Bay the camp aims to foster leadership, and build confidence by integrating modern technology with the timeless wisdom of respected Elders. One of the core tenets of the project is to introduce and emphasize the 7 principles of Inunnguiniq IQ Principles. For example: Respecting others, relationships and caring for others; this includes parents, grandparents, siblings and people in general. Fostering good spirits by being open (honest) welcoming and inclusive (to feel a part of or belonging). Serving and providing for family and/or community; the caribou, fish, seals, geese you harvest can be given to elders, shut-ins and family. This Elder Led youth camp idea was planted through discussions the Hearts in the Ice team had with respected Elder George Angohaitok in 2022. Since that time it has evolved and is a reality today. The team of Elders hosting the camp this summer will be Harry & Mary Rose and Tommy and Jeanne. This entire camp project was started with collaboration being of prime importance for all. The main lead in the community between Hearts in the Ice and the LIVE IT earth team has been and is Brandon Langan,,Mental Health and addiction outreach worker for the Government of Nunavut. By integrating the use of technology such as citizen science and filmmaking tools, the camp aims to document the learning journey, creating a dynamic and interactive educational experience. Filmmaking tools and teachings are led by LIVEIT Earth an innovative online programs that pair real-world learning with interactive technology. There will be a Live Video call on Friday August 2nd at 0900 PST hosted by EBTSOYP. Elder Wedledi from Comox will join Elders, Youth and the team from HITI live from the Camp at Foggy Bay.  The link to join via youtube live: https://lnkd.in/gCTPTDPr For more information about the Elder-led Youth Survival Camp please contact: Bettina Breckenfeld Press Lead for Hearts in the Ice  Email: BBreckenfeld@gmail.com Phone: 1.951.751.3338 PST Website: www.heartsintheice.com

This does not make me proud to be a Norwegian.I understand that we need resources to scale up the green transition but must we find solutions that are going to have an impact on our oceans and sea life ? Would love to hear thoughts /other ideas on this- thanks.

With the first day of COP28 a wrap- it feels timely and important to share a valuable piece crafted by some rather insightful, dedicated, smart researchers who are telling it like it is. Thanks so much to Peter Wadhams for sharing so bluntly that we need new approaches to solving our climate crisis. Thank you to Peter's partner in science and life #MariaPiaCasarini for sharing this with us. Dear colleague, You may find our new paper interesting and useful. “Bad science and good intentions prevent effective climate action” has been initially published as a preprint. It is available at: https://lnkd.in/gBh3zZh9 Although the 2015 Paris Agreement’s climate targets will almost certainly be missed, surprisingly few experts are challenging the current mitigation strategy as fundamentally flawed, and calling for new approaches to avoid an escalating crisis. Our article argues that overly optimistic presumptions and failure to recognize the reality of ever more disastrous climate events underlie both the lack of public debate over the need for a new climate strategy and the opposition of many well-meaning scientists and environmentalists to even researching climate cooling measures. The climate crisis is here now: dangerous climate overshoot is already occurring, the world is still many decades away from ending greenhouse gas emissions, the international mitigation strategy is inadequate and failing, and the risks of catastrophic climate change are real and increasing. Catastrophe is not inevitable; it will only occur if we fail to develop and deploy safe, realistic mitigation strategies. These will require the application of rapid climate cooling measures to reduce risks during the long time it will take to decarbonize the global economy and restore a safe, stable climate. A realistic overshoot risk management plan will have to simultaneously apply three strategies: (a) using climate cooling technologies to keep temperatures within safe limits until greenhouse gas concentrations have been reduced to a level that stabilizes the climate; (b) rapidly reducing greenhouse gas emissions; and (c) deploying large-scale negative emission technologies to draw down atmospheric carbon. At this critical time, the international community must prioritize developing a feasible overshoot risk management plan or risk irreversible, catastrophic damage to the biophysical and physicochemical systems that support human civilization. For further information, please contact one of our corresponding authors: Professor Emeritus Peter Wadhams, University of Cambridge: pw11@cam.ac.uk Assistant Professor Daniele Visioni, Cornell University: daniele.visioni@cornell.edu Best regards, Peter Wadhams Emeritus Professor, University of Cambridge, UK

#cCHANGE = So many of us are working to make an impact and #heartsintheice is one of those projects that had the good fortune to learn and understand how to do that. This time last year we attended the course - 3days/month over 3 months with #MonicaSharma #LivHegeSeglesten, #KarenOBrien and a host of others. It starts with you and what you value and then align yourself and your network with others that share those values. It was great learning as change only happens if there is reciprocity and a plan that is scaleable and can affect policy. Take a look at what they are doing and be inspired to play a greater role in finding creative solutions to solve our problems. We can all do something. x
