Isolating medial sounds in words is an essential phonemic awareness skill. The focus is on recognizing the vowel sound in the middle of a word. We guide students to isolate both short and long vowel sounds in the words they hear. To help with this, we use our roller coaster hand motion for isolating medial sounds.
