Interesting…most of the new electric aircraft OEMs vastly underestimate the effort of certifications standards. Now that US DoD programs are also going all in on these standards, it’s great to bring attention. HEKA does know these standards, and home to the geographic epicenter of aerospace engineering…Florida’s Space Coast. Lower cost of development and certification, higher density of engineering talent, and the ability to bring firm-foxed schedule and budget solutions to new aircraft platforms.

We are seeing significant adoption of modern standards and paradigms like DO-178, DO-254, FACE, and MOSA across new defense applications. HEKA applauds the adoption of these processes and standards because they lead to increased quality, safety, and interoperability of electronic systems. (It is also something we do well and help others perform efficiently). When taken as a whole, this leads to assured mission success for the warfighter!

Lately, a hot topic has been the schedule of the new aircraft OEMs certifying their aircraft and achieving airworthiness.I can only comment on the avionics side, which is one of HEKA ‘s core specialties. I can state that those companies that realize that experience triumphs novel technology are ahead of the game and planning appropriately... It's like buying insurance ... the cost of an independent audit, assessment, and plan, or even complete outsourcing to companies like HEKA ensures that budgets and timelines are met. Getting to market on time and within budget is critical. Contact us HEKA #DO178 #DO254 #Avionics #Certification #eVTOL

The HEKA team was honored to participate in the Defense Innovation Unit's Hypersonic and High-Cadence Airborne Testing Capabilities (HyCAT) initiative kickoff meeting yesterday at Cape Canaveral. A significant part of this program includes building a prototype for an affordable air-launched air-breathing hypersonic testbed. The prototype will be built by Innoveering, a GE Aerospace company, and designed by their subcontractor, Specter Aerospace. The hypersonic test bed will be launched from the F104 flown by Starfighters International. The program manager leading the HyCAT initiative, LtCol Nicholas Estep, says, “Our objective is to provide a diverse set of dual-use technology solutions to the hypersonic testing apparatus, addressing immediate and long-term needs.”

Google has launched Gemini, its groundbreaking AI model, poised to rival OpenAI's GPT models. This versatile AI, referred to as the company's largest and most capable model yet, stands out for its multimodal capabilities, handling various media inputs like text, images, audio, video, and code. Dubbed the "Gemini era," this AI model is set to revolutionize Google's products, including the widely-used Bard chatbot, search engine, and Chrome browser. The launch signifies Google's strategic move to regain ground in the generative AI landscape after the surge in popularity of OpenAI's ChatGPT. Gemini comes in three sizes - Nano, Pro, and Ultra, catering to a diverse array of tasks and customers. Google's advancements in cloud computing have fueled Gemini's development, utilizing more powerful processors to train models faster, potentially reshaping AI training accessibility. While Gemini outperforms rivals in numerous benchmarks, Google remains cautious about potential risks, acknowledging concerns about AI systems generating misleading information. To address this, they're gradually releasing Gemini Ultra for thorough testing and evaluation before its broader rollout next year, demonstrating a commitment to safety and responsibility in AI development.

Researchers at Cornell University are pioneering a solution to combat ocean plastic pollution inspired by the Hawaiian apple snail's unique movement. While traditional cleanup methods address larger debris, the pervasive issue of microplastics remains a challenge. This innovative robot prototype mimics the snail's foot motion, creating water flow to capture microplastics on ocean surfaces. Utilizing a 3D-printed undulating sheet and a rotating helical structure, the design generates a traveling wave on water surfaces. It operates efficiently on low voltage, demonstrating its suction capabilities with minimal energy consumption. Though in its prototype stage, this technology showcases promise in addressing microplastic pollution. With further development and scaling, it could offer an efficient and sustainable solution to combat ocean plastic pollution, emphasizing the power of biomimicry in tackling environmental challenges.
