About us

Helen Keller National Center for Deaf-Blind Youths and Adults, or HKNC, is the only comprehensive national program that provides vocational and rehabilitation services exclusively to youths and adults who are deaf-blind. The residential-based training program, located at its headquarters in Sands Point, NY, provides evaluation, short-term vocational and rehabilitation training (including employment, assistive technology, communication, orientation and mobility, independent living, creative arts, audiology, low vision and support services) and assistance to consumers in locating employment, housing and community resources in their home states. A Community Services Program provides community based evaluation and training to individuals who are deaf-blind and living in the NY metropolitan area. Field services include 12 regional offices and Senior Adult Services. A Professional Learning Dept conducts professional training seminars both on campus and in the community. Professional internships are also available. HKNC is a partner in the National Consortium on Deaf-Blindness and supports the National Family Association for Deaf-Blind. HKNC maintains a national registry of all individuals who are deaf-blind. HKNC is operated by Helen Keller Services.
