We want to talk about the thing no one else is... Let's navigate Perimenopause, together.

About us

Dr. Maggie Ney and Alisa Kasmer, best friends for over 30 years, created HelloPeri out of a clear lack of education and resources readily available to those experiencing symptoms of Perimenopause. So many people feel alone and are confused by their hormonal changes, and don't know how to feel themselves again. It can be a frustrating time, but our goal is to provide the most comprehensive resources and strategies to help you balance your hormones and feel incredible! At HelloPeri, inclusivity and diversity are at our core. Whether you identify as non- binary, queergender, transgender, gender fluid, agender, bigender, demigender, or pandgeder, we're in this together. We understand that the social normative terms “woman” and “female,” may not apply to you. But no matter how you identify, HelloPeri wants to advocate for you. We stand firmly as allies with the LGBTQIA community, and embrace diversity and inclusion, no matter age, race, sexual orientation, or gender identity. Welcome! We’re so happy you’re here.

Did you know joint pain is super common during perimenopause? Joint pain aka arthralgia is often linked to changing hormone levels, especially the drop in estrogen, as women get closer to menopause. Over half of women experience aches or arthritis around this time. The drop in hormones and muscle loss with age play a big role in this. If you're feeling it, you're definitely not alone! #helloperi #perimenopause #estrogen #jointpain #muscleloss

Testosterone is essential for maintaining vitality, leanness, and strength. Our testosterone levels start to decline in our 30s, significantly impacting our current well-being and long-term health. In addition to natural hormonal fluctuations during perimenopause, certain foods can exacerbate symptoms of low testosterone. These foods include bread, pasta, refined carbohydrates, sugar, coffee (both caffeinated and decaffeinated), diet beverages, and dairy. Environmental factors, such as Bisphenol A (BPA) found in plastics, can also block testosterone. #perimenopause #BPAs #testosterone #hormones #hormonalfluctuations #strength #vitality #helloperi

When discussing hormones through perimenopause and beyond, much attention is often placed on hormone production and regulation. However, an 𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁 aspect of hormonal balance is the 𝘦𝘭𝘪𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘰𝘳 𝘳𝘦𝘮𝘰𝘷𝘢𝘭 𝘰𝘧 𝘩𝘰𝘳𝘮𝘰𝘯𝘦𝘴 𝘧𝘳𝘰𝘮 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘣𝘰𝘥𝘺 once they have served their purpose. The Importance of the estrogen elimination process is often neglected when discussing hormonal balance! Estrogen needs to be properly metabolized and eliminated from the body to maintain balance. This elimination process involves various organs and systems, including the liver, kidneys, and gastrointestinal tract. If this elimination process is impaired or inefficient, excess estrogen may accumulate in the body, leading to hormonal imbalances. Neglecting the importance of estrogen elimination can result in various health issues, including estrogen dominance, which is characterized by high levels of estrogen relative to other hormones. Estrogen dominance has been linked to conditions such as menstrual irregularities, mood swings, weight gain, and an increased risk of certain cancers, including breast cancer. Paying attention to, and supporting the body's natural processes for eliminating estrogen is crucial for achieving and maintaining hormonal balance. This can involve adopting lifestyle habits that promote liver and kidney health, such as staying hydrated, eating a balanced diet rich in fiber and antioxidants, exercising regularly, and minimizing exposure to environmental toxins that can disrupt hormone metabolism. #estrogen #hormonalbalance #perimenopause #helloperi #hrt #veryperi #estrogenmatters #elimination #balance

One of the least talked about symptoms of perimenopause is known as "formication" aka crawling skin sensation and is characterized by the feeling of the sensation of phantom insects crawling on the hands, feet, arms, legs, and scalp. So why does this happen?? Estrogen stimulates the production of collagen, which provides strength, resilience, and support to the skin. When estrogen levels decrease, the skin's ability to retain moisture diminishes, and the body's production of natural skin oils slows down. This reduction in collagen results in thinner, drier skin that is more prone to itching and uncomfortable sensations. Also to be noted is that during perimenopause you may notice increased sensitivity to soaps and detergents, leading to further skin irritation. The decreased collagen can also contribute to the formation of wrinkles and a loss of skin elasticity, making the skin appear older, while the skin's ability to retain moisture diminishes, exacerbating dryness and increasing the likelihood of developing conditions such as eczema or dermatitis. #Formication #collagen #perimenopause #helloperi #hrt #crawlingskin #dermatitis #dryskin #collagen Formicat

Today, as we celebrate #Juneteenth, we reflect on the ongoing fight for equality and honor the enduring strength and resilience of Black women. As we celebrate freedom, we must also recognize the ongoing struggles Black women face, particularly in accessing adequate healthcare. Black women have historically led the charge for civil rights and social justice, yet they continue to encounter severe healthcare disparities. Perimenopause and menopause are significant phases in a woman's life, yet Black women often experience unique and severe challenges during these times: 🖤 Earlier Onset: Black women tend to enter perimenopause earlier than white women, sometimes as early as their late 30s or early 40s. 🖤 More Severe Symptoms: Black women often endure more intense symptoms such as hot flashes, night sweats, and mood swings, which can significantly impact their quality of life. 🖤 Under-Treated and Overlooked: Black women frequently report that their symptoms are dismissed or inadequately treated by healthcare providers, a reflection of systemic bias and inequity in medical care. 🖤 Higher Risks: They are at a higher risk for conditions like cardiovascular disease and osteoporosis during menopause, yet they receive less preventive care and support. Today and every day, we honor Black women by advocating for their health and well-being. Here's how we can make a difference together: 🔸 Educate ourselves and our communities about the healthcare challenges Black women face. 🔸 Support organizations dedicated to improving healthcare for Black women. 🔸 Push for policies that address racial bias and improve access to quality healthcare. By standing together, we can ensure that the spirit of Juneteenth extends to creating a future where Black women receive the healthcare they deserve. #BlackWomenMatter #HealthEquity #Juneteenth2024 #perimenopause #menopause #helloperi

During perimenopause, we start producing lower amounts of key hormones, such as estrogen and progesterone. As these hormone levels decline shifting hormonal symptoms, including insomnia, tend to increase. Additionally, factors such as night sweats, hot flashes, and anxiety, which are common during during peri, can further disrupt sleep patterns. 𝗤𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝘀𝗹𝗲𝗲𝗽 𝗱𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗺𝗲𝗻𝗼𝗽𝗮𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹 for many reasons. First, it helps improve cognitive function, including memory, concentration, and decision-making, which can be impaired by sleep deprivation. Second, adequate sleep supports emotional well-being, reducing the risk of anxiety and depression, which can be exacerbated by hormonal changes. Third, quality sleep is essential for physical health, contributing to a stronger immune system, healthier weight management, and reduced risk of chronic conditions such as cardiovascular disease and diabetes.
