Congratulations to the 2024 Hendrick Health leadership award recipients. Elizabeth Henry, Abilene market director for Case Management for Hendrick Health, was named the Leadership Excellence Award winner. Newcomers of the Year also were recognized for each campus – Toni Brockway, director for Workforce Development for Hendrick Medical Center; Laura Corder, PAT/Pre-Op/PACU nurse manager for Hendrick Medical Center South; and Jennifer Cook, Acute Care Services director for Hendrick Medical Center Brownwood.

Thank you to the 1,712 participants and 100-plus volunteers who took our slogan "think pink, roll big" to heart to make this year's Bunco for Breast Cancer a glittering success. Attendees were a sight to see dressed for the Roaring '20s theme for the 20th annual event. Best of all, the event raised more than $125,000 for The Hope Fund at Hendrick, which helps pay for mammograms for women in our area who would otherwise be unable to afford one. Mammograms are so important because early detection is a key strategy in fighting Breast Cancer.

Did you know that Hendrick Health is a nonprofit healthcare system directed by a local, volunteer board? It's been that way since our founding in 1924. Through the years, we have grown with the community, creating jobs and continually reinvesting in infrastructure and equipment to offer a wide range of comprehensive healthcare services so people can stay close to home for their medical care.

Hendrick Health's Healthcare Academy exposes local and area high school students to multiple healthcare fields and the educational programs in the Big Country to pursue those rewarding careers. The students recently attended Lab Day at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center - Abilene Campus to experience examples of clinical skills training. Today, we celebrated with the community the kickoff of Hendrick Health’s second century of care with the raising of our Centennial flag at Hendrick Medical Center, Hendrick Medical Center South and Hendrick Medical Center Brownwood. Thank you to Taylor County Judge Phil Crowley, City of Abilene Councilman Kyle McAlister, Abilene Chamber Redcoat Ambassadors and other attendees for joining Hendrick Health employees and Board members at concurrent events at the hospital campuses. #Hendrick100

Hendrick Health celebrated its 100th birthday today with a convocation at First Baptist Church in Abilene. Thank you to former Board member and Baptist General Convention of Texas representative Ward Hayes for presenting Hendrick Health President and CEO Brad Holland a certificate for the occasion. In the closing benediction and charge during the convocation, pastor Richard Darden, a current Hendrick Board member, encouraged continuing another century of service to our communities. #Hendrick100

Today we mark the birthday of Hendrick Health with the opening of its original hospital, West Texas Baptist Sanitarium. One hundred years ago on September 15, 1924, hospital officials, staff and volunteers hosted a community open house. Thousands were escorted on tours, starting with a ride on the elevators to the fifth floor and then taking the stairs down each floor. The hospital opened with 52 patient beds and room for a total of 75. Features included some of the best X-ray, laboratory and surgical equipment of the era. #Hendrick100 #Hendrickproud
