One way healthcare professionals can make a difference in preventing and responding to domestic violence is to work alongside community members and organizations to educate and empower those with direct contact with survivors about the medical impact of these forms of violence. When equipped with knowledge and resources, together we can continue to build towards a future of safety, health, and well-being for the communities we serve. During Domestic Violence Awareness Month, our Hennepin Assault Response Team (HART) has brought training to multiple agencies in our community and greater MN. Thank you to this amazing team, dedicated to sharing knowledge with healthcare providers, other professionals who have contact with survivors, and the community at large.

Paige Hillman – Research Intern, Emergency Department “I’m in a pre-physician’s assistant program at St. Catherine’s University and an intern with HCMC’s emergency department for the Research and Quality Improvement Program. It’s been an amazing experience. The fast-paced and diverse environment has let me interact with patients, observe skilled physicians at work, and be a part of meaningful clinical studies. One project I’m especially excited about is an intubation quality improvement study focused on enhancing patient experience. Being there when patients arrive and following up with them afterward has been really rewarding. It’s great to see how our efforts can make a positive difference and to hear feedback from patients about how we can improve. This research opportunity has been a fantastic way to prepare for my future in healthcare. I've learned so much about clinical practices and patient care, and I feel more equipped for my journey ahead.
