Our sports medicine physician Dr. Anthony Tam and our residents Dr. Azaz Umar and Dr. Nikki are credited with helping save runner Patrick Vanderbush at the Detroit Free Press Marathon. On the morning of Patrick’s 60th birthday, he was just 2 miles from completing his 13th marathon when he collapsed from a heart attack. Dr. Tam was working in our medical tent and sprinted over to Patrick, who had gone into cardiac arrest and had no pulse. Dr. Tam started CPR while Dr. Umar and Dr. Taylor helped run the code. Their quick and effective life-saving measures restored Patrick's pulse before he was transported to a nearby hospital for surgery. Drs. Tam, Umar and Taylor visited Patrick before he was discharged. Sharing his plans to renew his CPR certification, Patrick said: “I'm hopefully walking and talking evidence of the importance of CPR.” “It's stuff like this that really pulls on your heartstrings,” shared Dr. Tam. “This is why I went into medicine. I want to help people.”

The White Coat Tour at our Jackson hospital recently gave local students, educators, chamber members and community members an inside look at what it's like to be a trauma patient. Providers from critical care surgery, anesthesia, blood bank and emergency medicine demonstrated how the Jackson hospital's Level II trauma center delivers advanced technology - as well as collaborative patient care for the best possible outcome. Plus, team members from hospice, bereavement support, and our Advanced Illness Management (AIM) program joined to educate attendees about care and community resources.

Our incredible neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) nurses have once again shared the whimsical spirit of Halloween with our tiniest patients. With a touch of Disney-themed magic pixy dust, they lovingly dressed our patients in beautifully handmade costumes! A huge thank you to our dedicated NICU team at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit for going above and beyond - year after year - to make this special tradition come to life. Your creativity, compassion and commitment are a true testament to the extraordinary care you provide every day! 🏰✨
