We’re so proud of our team and the ways they step up to help others near and far. Here are a few photos we’ve received recently of our employee owners volunteering their time at a local food bank, contributing supplies for hurricane victims, and cleaning up litter along the roadway. Thank you to everyone who contributed to these efforts. #HRGvolunteers

We recently attended a ribbon cutting ceremony for the Hickory Run Bridge in Franklin County, PA. This is the second bridge replacement Franklin County completed this year; the other – the Leafmore Road Bridge over Back Creek – opened in August. These bridges are an early but important milestone in the county’s bridge program, which we helped them develop as their bridge engineer. Under this program, the county is set to replace all of the poor condition bridges in its inventory by 2034. Three are entering the design phase within the next 12 months. A 10-year capital improvement plan identifies and prioritizes needs for all 91 county-owned bridges based on factors such as condition, lifespan, planning goals, and the bridge's importance to the roadway network. The plan considers key factors such as traffic volumes, emergency access, and economic sustainability. By proactively identifying these needs, the county can budget more effectively, seek grant opportunities, and avoid load restrictions or closures that would inconvenience drivers. The bridge program builds on the county’s long-standing commitment to maintaining its infrastructure. We want to commend the county commissioners and their staff for this commitment and thank them for the opportunity to be a part of this program.

Seeing our office so full of people reminded us how much we’ve grown and the community we’ve built in Western PA over the years. Thank you to everyone who came to celebrate with us and everyone who has worked with us over the past 3 decades (!) We are grateful for every single one of you.

Are you headed to the PSATS Fall Forum in Allentown next week? We’ll be there talking about how to get started with capital improvement planning for roadways and bridges. Hear how other municipalities are attracting grant funds and lowering the life cycle cost of their infrastructure through systematic condition assessment, prioritization, and funding strategies. Attendees earn 1 PMGA Public Works Point. We hope to see you there!

Denise Spong recently celebrated her 25th year at HRG, and we want to take a moment to recognize her many contributions. She is, no doubt, the most experienced and knowledgeable member of our marketing team, and she is also the most generous of spirit. She is always quick to offer assistance to anyone on any task, and she brings a great deal of institutional knowledge to every project. We are lucky and grateful to have her on the team. Matthew Bonanno, Ryan Albright, Anna Clark, Wendy Jewell, and Adrienne Vicari, P.E. share their thoughts on working with Denise below. Add your thoughts in the comments.

Who’s headed to the Pennsylvania Chapter of the American Planning Association's conference next week? We are. Tim Staub, AICP, is joining Silas Chamberlin, PhD, to discuss data-driven housing solutions and ways to leverage recreational assets for economic development in separate sessions on Sunday and Monday. Laura Ludwig, Lori Morgan, and Sommer Schneller are presenting sessions on low-cost public engagement strategies and planning tools communities can use to manage development pressure. We hope to see you there.

Mike Hess and Lauren Zumbrun attended a ribbon cutting ceremony at Siebert Park this week. The newly enhanced park includes 1,800 linear feet of stream restoration, 2,500 feet of paved walking trail, and a new concrete kayak launch at the Conodoguinet Creek. These improvements will enrich recreational opportunities for Camp Hill residents and reduce sediment in Blackberry Spring Run (helping the borough meet its MS4 Pollutant Reduction Plan requirements). The project is a great example of the synergistic relationship between environmental goals and recreational program goals, demonstrating the value communities can get when thinking about them both together. HRG’s team assisted with engineering design, and permitting plus funding procurement and administration. Thank you to Jake Hoffman, Matthew Attig, Jonny Wood, Tracy Strickland, and Katelyn Valla for your contributions to this project, and thank you, Camp Hill Borough, for the opportunity to work on it with you.

We’re pleased to announce that Erin Threet has been named vice president of services. This is a new role designed to maintain HRG’s strong commitment to quality as we continue to grow into new service areas and markets. Erin has been serving as assistant vice president, overseeing operations in our Lewisburg office since 2012. She has also been assisting our clients with the planning, design, and management of water and wastewater systems for more than 18 years.
