About us

Heritage Hospice is a family-founded hospice that takes pride in providing our patients with comfort, dignity and peace either in the comfort of their own home or in a skilled facility of their choice. We have Registered Nurses available and on-call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. All of the services included in your hospice plan of care are paid in full by the Medicare and Medicaid hospice benefit. We are there to answer your questions and help you make meaningful decisions. The vision was of a company that truly recognized their greatest asset which is their employees. Excellent employees are what separate good organizations from excellent organizations and recognizing those employees is just as important. We recognize that maintaining top-notch employees and outstanding nursing to patient ratios reduces employee turnover which improves staff satisfaction scores, provides continuity of care for patients, and overall improves what they are striving for which is to be the best hospice in Western Pennsylvania . Secondly, our vision is to have a company that is so involved within the local community that it is truly known as the hospice of choice within the surrounding areas and recognized as an organization that gives back to the local community. Within the short time since our first patient came on service in April of 2011, local events are already in the planning stages such as an annual 5k walk and a summer softball tournament to raise funds for local charities. Patient outreach programs are also in the planning stages so that the general public can be better educated on who is appropriate for hospice care and what benefits hospice care provides to those individuals qualifying for this additional care they are entitled to. This education will lead to more patients utilizing this benefit which can be life changing for patients and their families.

Happy World Occupational Therapy Day! The theme for this year is, “Occupational Therapy for All.” The theme reflects the important role of the profession in facilitating the ability of individuals, communities, and populations to participate in the activities that they want, need, or are expected to do in their daily lives. Occupational therapy is a vital part of hospice. This form of therapy is used to help those recovering from physical or mental illnesses. We work to encourage rehabilitation to help with certain activities that are necessary for daily life. OTs play a crucial role in the hospice care team. They help identify significant life roles and activities that provide some meaning to patients. They’ll talk to the patient to find out what they want to accomplish and what’s most important to them. They also consider the available support systems and resources they may have to achieve those goals. Thank you, Occupational Therapist, for all the hard work that you do each day!

During Spiritual Care Week, we celebrate the chaplains who serve not only as spiritual guides but also as counselors, listeners, and compassionate companions. Their roles extend far beyond religious care, as they wear many hats to provide support wherever it’s needed most. Meet our newest Chaplain for Heritage Hospice, Emily. She has had the privilege of working in hospice before and is thrilled to be transitioning into this company. She says, “I always knew that I wanted to work in hospice after having experienced end of life with my Grandad when I was just a young girl. I couldn't have been more than 7 years old but would spend hours each day at his bedside and remember feeling like something special and truly meaningful was happening in those final days. As I have grown up, collecting education and a variety of experiences, I have witnessed time and time again just how sacred the end of life can be and what a privilege it is to be invited into that time with the families we serve to participate with their faith traditions and spiritual practices. Life is so beautifully unique and sometimes we don't fully realize that until we face the reality of our limited days. I continue to learn so much about faith and spiritual experience through hospice care and will be forever grateful for the patients who allow me to join them on their journey.” #SpiritualCareWeek #MoreThanReligion #ManyHatsOfCare #OurCareFamily

Heritage Hospice is dedicated to offering support, education, guidance, and resources for patients receiving hospice and palliative care, as well as their families and the broader community. In 2024, we are celebrating a decade since the World Health Assembly (WHO's Governing Body) adopted its unique resolution on palliative care. This resolution urged all nations to enhance palliative care services as part of holistic care across all stages of life. We share with you some comparisons between Hospice and Palliative care: - Hospice is for terminal patients with 6 months or less to live. - Palliative care is for any stage of serious illness, alongside curative treatments. - Both focus on comfort, pain management, and quality of life. - Hospice care is often at home; palliative care can be in hospitals or clinics. - Both involve a multidisciplinary care team. - Hospice is covered by Medicare, Medicaid, and most insurance plans; palliative care varies. #WHPCDay24 #10YearsOn #Hospice #PalliativeCare
