WOMEN ON THE MOVE: Valerie Frausto, Chief, San Antonio Fire Department The San Antonio Fire Department has named Deputy Chief and 24-year SAFD veteran Valerie Frausto as its newest fire chief. She's scheduled to assume the department’s top position beginning Nov. 1 and is the first woman to hold this position. Her appointment is pending City Council approval which is slated for this Thursday.
