Allie’s Place Afterschool got a taste of Middle Eastern cuisine with a special visit from NAYA!🥗 A partner of our Culinary program at Allie’s Place, NAYA wanted to share their passion for Middle Eastern flavors and ingredients with the kids, leading a mini mezze platter workshop. The kids learned about traditional dishes before assembling their own platters—many trying foods like hummus and figs for the first time. 🍋🫑🥕🍇 They also got to build their own NAYA bowls to take with. We’re so grateful for this partnership that gave the kids the chance to explore new flavors in a fun and engaging way. Our Partnerships Manager Tierra Gunther attended the ribbon cutting at The New York Public Library Hunts Point! After renovations to modernize the building and make it more accessible, the library reopened as a welcoming space for the community. Local leaders, including Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Councilman Rafael Salamanca, Jr., also attended the event and spoke about the library’s role as a community hub and resource. The library has been a wonderful partner for our families at Prospect, hosting read-alouds and arts & crafts for Early Ed and helping families get library cards. We’re excited to reconnect and continue our collaboration! New York City Police Department Community Affairs officers Sgt. Damico and Officer Vargas stopped by Allie’s Coffee Spot and Allie’s Bistro Pop-Ups to see the students in action. In addition to delicious coffee and baked goods served by the students in the Hospitality job-training program, students in the Bistro Workshop prepared a special menu honoring the Black/African diaspora for Black History Month. The visit was a chance to connect with the community over great food and plenty of laughs—thanks to a round of classic “Dad” jokes exchanged between Chef Greg and the officers. #NYC #Bronx #JobDevelopment #JobPlacement #JobTraining #CulinaryEducation #CulinaryProgram #CulinaryTraining #Culinary #CulinaryArts #WorkforceDevelopment #ServiceIndustry #FoodIndustry #CulinaryIndustry #BlackHistoryMonth #BHM #CommunityConnection

Our team was proud to take part in The National Women's Shelter Network conference, contributing to important discussions on shelter models and education. Our Executive Director, John Henry Greenwood, moderated the "From Shelter to Stability" panel, where leaders in the field shared innovative, trauma-informed approaches for families experiencing homelessness. Our Managing Director of Comms & Policy, Linda Bazerjian, joined a panel on strategies to help sheltered school-age children succeed, highlighting insights from our Afterschool & Recreation program at Saratoga Family Residence. We wrapped up the week at the NWSN’s press conference, where they shared their Safe Shelter Saves Lives campaign to raise awareness about the hidden homeless—women, families, and children. We also joined NY partners on Capitol Hill to help inform and educate about holistic shelters. Grateful for the opportunity to be part of this important work! #NWSN #NWSNConference2025 #SafeShelterSavesLives
