FEMA recommends the following seven safety tips for operating portable generators: 1. Location: Keep generators outside and at least 20 feet away from buildings, windows, doors, and vents. 2. Carbon monoxide: Install battery backup powered carbon monoxide detectors on every level of your home and outside sleeping areas. Carbon monoxide is odorless and colorless, so you won't know if it's present. 3. Fuel: Turn off the generator and let it cool for 15–20 minutes before refueling. Never fuel a generator while it's running. Store fuel in properly labeled, non-glass safety containers outside living areas. 4. Extension cords: Use heavy-duty extension cords designed for outdoor use to connect appliances to the generator. 5. Wet conditions: Avoid using generators in wet conditions, as this can cause electrocution. 6. Manufacturer's instructions: Read the manufacturer's instructions on how to use the generator. 7. Fire extinguisher: Keep a fire extinguisher nearby. #Generatorsafety #lifesafety #scutumgroup #scutumnorthamerica
