I asked Mike Cachat how long it took to land his first customer after running his debut bike magazine print ad in 1995. His answer surprised me and, to be honest, made me a bit.. biz dev envious. 😅 The story of building Jenson USA is on all podcast platforms and viewable on YouTube and Spotify. Enjoy your day! 🏔 🚲 🌿 – Tony

I hope you will watch and be inspired by Mike Cachat's journey as I have been over the years. Enjoy your day! 🏔 🚲 🌿 – Tony

"People think it's about being liked, but the question everyone is asking about you is, 'Can I trust you?'" – David Horsager Last week, I attended the CEO/Leadership luncheon at Indiana Wesleyan University, where David from the Trust Edge Leadership Institute posed a powerful question to the group: "𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗰𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺?"  We huddled into groups, and these answers quickly surfaced: 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗹𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗲𝗽: • Longer time for everything • Higher costs across the board • Lower loyalty from everyone involved 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗹𝘆, 𝗵𝗶𝗴𝗵 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝘆𝗶𝗲𝗹𝗱𝘀 𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗯𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗳𝗶𝘁𝘀: • Superior innovation • Enhanced creativity • Improved morale • Increased productivity As leaders, we must continually ask ourselves: How can we build and demonstrate trustworthiness to attract and retain the best candidates?

An important lesson I learned from Leon Leonwood Bean..."sell good merchandise at a reasonable profit, treat your customers like human beings, and they will always come back for more"

I thought it was powerful how Nancy Dynan shared a key insight on team dynamics: “You can't let your team’s mood go up and down based on sales.” In tough times, focusing solely on sales numbers can lead to fluctuating morale. Instead, it’s about finding other meaningful metrics that inspire and motivate. Establishing a consistent, purpose-driven approach to measuring success that goes beyond just the numbers will increase employee retention and engagement. Executive Search | Outdoor Sporting Goods & Active Lifestyle

I was reading the Jim Duffy Sports & Lifestyle report this morning, and a few trends caught my eye. From my perspective, the data from recreational and sporting goods stores is a bit of a mixed bag. While these stores are still 2.4% below their 2019 traffic levels, back-to-school shopping shows a positive indicator as foot traffic reached 2023 levels, improving by +1.2% points. In contrast, retail clothing stores and super stores are surpassing 2023 levels but have also blown past their pre-pandemic numbers, with strong consumer engagement driven by new product. I like this because active lifestyle brands fit into this category, creating a crossover with sporting goods. This contrast highlights the challenges and opportunities facing the recreational and sporting goods sector as it navigates its path to full recovery. This data correlates based on the volume of search discussions I've had over the past 60 days. Let's go!
