The June Circana numbers are in! - 3 out of the 4 June weeks delivered growth for many departments. The fourth week was down across the board with July 4th falling on a Thursday vs Tuesday last year. Unlike last year when shoppers could use their weekend stock up trip to cover the holiday, more people shopped mid-week for the holiday, which pushed sales into July and next month's report. - #Meat had a solid performance with gains 3 out of the 4 June weeks. Fresh meat sales increased 3.7% while pounds were flat, with strength for chicken. On the processed side, pre-packaged lunchmeat grew dollars and pounds, while bacon pounds are down on renewed inflation. Report thanks to Hillphoenix. - The sales troubles for plant-based meat alternatives continued. - #Fruit had a monster month with melons, mandarins and grapes adding significant new dollars. Could the frozen #grapes TikTok trend be fueling the 18% YOY sales growth? On the veg side, salad and grilling season are in full swing, with tomatoes, lettuce and potatoes leading sales and corn coming into the top 10 sellers. Check with Joe Watson, CPP for more info! - The deli department fired on all cylinders with dollar and unit growth for cheese, meat and prepared foods. There is no stopping the popularity of specialty #cheese and deli prepared sales continue to accelerate, especially prepared meat with double-digit growth. - In seafood, the overall numbers were down but several species are starting to move more pounds while deflation is negatively impacting dollars. This includes powerhouses #salmon and #shrimp. - Frozen food sales are back in the black and growth is accelerating.
