🎉 🎈 National Principal’s Month – Head Start Director, Ethel J. Gaines 🍎 🏫 At Kids First Head Start, the motto is “Children come FIRST in getting a Head Start in Education!” But as part of Hitchcock ISD, we also believe that *“What Starts Here CAN Change the World,”* a vision that begins right on our Head Start campus, where Ethel J. Gaines serves as Director. Ms. Gaines' journey into education is rooted in her background as a social worker, combined with inspiration from her family and a passion for supporting children and their families. As the Director, she is committed to positively impacting the lives of her students through training, development, and unwavering dedication. For Ms. Gaines, the children are always at the heart of her work. To Ms. Gaines, being the campus leader isn’t just a job—it’s “a missionary calling” to help others. She is dedicated to creating a safe, nurturing environment and sees challenges as opportunities for growth and continuous improvement. She also emphasizes a multicultural approach to teaching behavior, supported by collaboration with parents, staff, and community stakeholders. Ms. Gaines embraces the core philosophy of “No Child Left Behind,” believing that student behavior is vital to future success and that the learning process must not be disrupted. To boost her impact, she engages with students and parents daily, creating a strong presence on campus. The Office of Head Start, Hitchcock ISD, the Kids First Policy Council, and the Parent Committee all play essential roles in guiding Ms. Gaines' leadership and administration. A fun fact about Ms. Gaines? She’s a fan of recorded TV shows. Once she learned to record her favorite programs using her remote and cell phone, she never looked back! With over 25 years of service at the same campus, Ms. Gaines values the love and support from the community, saying, "We may be small, but we pack a big punch in Hitchcock." We are proud to have a *world changer* in Ms. Gaines, whose dedication supports our students, families, and staff at Kids First Head Start!

🌟 Principal Spotlight: Michael Skinner, Co-Principal at Hitchcock High School 🌟 Meet Michael Skinner, co-principal at Hitchcock High School, whose dedication and passion for education have been making an impact in our district. Mr. Skinner's inspiration for becoming an educator comes from the great teachers and coaches he had growing up, who left a lasting impression on him. Now, he strives to do the same for his students by creating meaningful connections and helping them reach their full potential. Mr. Skinner is proud of implementing tutorial opportunities during the school day, a significant achievement that provides additional academic support for students. He believes building genuine relationships is key to a positive school culture, emphasizing personal interactions and clear communication of the school's vision. Here’s a fun fact: Mr. Skinner once competed in the Olympic trials for the marathon! 🏃♂️ His determination and dedication on the track are evident in his work at Hitchcock High School. For the 2024-2025 school year, Mr. Skinner is focused on increasing student attendance, improving academic performance, and retaining staff. He plans to achieve these goals through clear communication of expectations, consistent follow-through, and fostering a positive culture where staff feel valued and enjoy their work environment. Being a part of Hitchcock ISD means a lot to Mr. Skinner, as he values the district’s commitment to helping students, staff, and the broader community be the best they can be.
