Last week, CADRE, HKS, and Center for BrainHealth had the privilege of bringing together leaders for the Building Brains Summit. The one-day event featured discussions about shaping the way we live, work, and learn to explore the future of brain health, brain capital and the built environment. As the day unfolded, the room was filled with ideas and collaboration, fueling a sense of optimism for how we can collectively advance brain health through our spaces and cities. Look at the key takeaways from the summit: ▶️ Train your brain—neuroplasticity is possible at any age. ▶️ Invest in the brain economy to address mental, fiscal, and planetary health. ▶️ Create enriching environments for seniors that prioritize flourishing, not just safety. ▶️ Prioritize learning and emotional resilience in high-stress work environments. ▶️ Strengthen our natural connection to nature in both design and practice. ▶️ Explore “experiential plasticity” through diverse, meaningful experiences that foster neuroplasticity. ▶️ Build partnerships and coalitions to bridge research and real-world applications. We are grateful to all the experts for their thought-provoking insights and inspiring conversations including City of Dallas Council Member Jaynie Schultz for demonstrating how Texas can serve as a living laboratory for these vital conversations. Big thank to our sponsors — Rice University's Baker Institute for Public Policy, Brain Capital Alliance, Perkins&Will, Academy of Neuroscience for Architecture (ANFA), International Interior Design Association and Brain Health Action, AARP who helped make this event a success. #buildingbrains #buildingbrainscoalition

HKS' Fred Ortiz has another #FollowFred in store! With recent travels, he reflects on the design of venues by HKS including Globe Life Field, Dickies® Arena and Texas Christian University's Amon G. Carter Stadium. Although each are designed differently, all have one thing in common — the spaces can host more than just one type of entertainment. "The notion of a building consisting of moving parts, equipped with services and amenities allowing it to take on a different appearance and play host to an array of different events, is becoming more of a need," says Fred. As fans continue to seek unique experiences, our team looks to transform venue design as we learn from one project to the next. Read on. ⬇️ ⬇️ #venuedesign #sports #design

As higher education enrollment rates climb, there is an urgent need for students to have quality housing on college campuses. HKS education designers have created student housing environments on campuses small and large. But beyond just delivering housing units, our teams have conducted extensive research to understand what students really want and need for their housing. HKS has developed a research coalition to help align with university partners on how to put student experience at the center of the design process. Out of twelve student needs, three of the most foundational needs identified were privacy, socialization and comfort. 🔽 Read on to understand how we have integrated the student experience into our design approach and the impact it has made. https://hks.onl/4eeQYbL Renae Mantooth/Jeff A.
