🚚 New CDL Downgrade Rule for Drug/Alcohol Violations Begins Nov. 18 Starting Nov. 18, state driver licensing agencies must downgrade a truck driver's CDL if they fail a drug or alcohol test and are placed in prohibited driving status. Key highlights of the new rule: ➡️ CDL Downgrade: State agencies must downgrade a CDL within 60 days for drivers in prohibited status, preventing them from driving. ➡️ Clearinghouse II: Builds on the original rule by ensuring drivers who fail tests cannot bypass restrictions. ➡️ Return-to-Duty Process: Requires substance abuse evaluations, treatment, and follow-up testing before restoring CDL privileges. The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) aims to improve road safety by preventing non-compliant drivers from operating commercial vehicles. Additional Points: ➡️ State Enforcement: Some states are already implementing the downgrade process. ➡️ Driver Accountability: Drivers must follow a structured return-to-duty process involving evaluations and follow-up tests. ➡️ Texas Leading Compliance: Texas has already downgraded 7,000 CDLs for drivers in prohibited status. ➡️ Consequences for Non-Compliance: States face potential funding cuts if they fail to comply with the new federal requirements. This new rule strengthens FMCSA's efforts to remove drivers under the influence from the road, enhancing public safety. #truckingjobs #truckingcompany #hmdtrucking

TOP STORIES OF THE TRUCKING INDUSTRY 🚚 Texas Supreme Court to Review $100M Verdict Against Werner Enterprises The Texas Supreme Court has agreed to review a $100 million verdict from a 2018 trial involving Werner Enterprises after a fatal 2014 crash. The crash occurred when a pickup truck crossed a highway median and collided with a Werner tractor-trailer. Despite Werner's driver being hit unexpectedly, the jury found the company liable, citing insufficient driver training. Werner has argued that the crash was unavoidable and has appealed the decision multiple times. Oral arguments are scheduled for December 3, 2024, with significant industry attention on the case’s outcome. 🚛 New Hazmat Haulage Rules Aim to Boost Safety and Cut Costs The Department of Transportation has proposed changes to hazardous materials transportation rules, aiming to simplify compliance while saving carriers up to $100 million. Key updates include streamlining hazard communication for fuel transport, improving rail tank car design, and allowing advanced video inspections for cargo tanks. A significant revision will expand bonding and grounding requirements to prevent static electricity buildup for combustible liquids, addressing safety concerns highlighted by past incidents that caused millions in damages. Public feedback will influence the final regulation adjustments. 🚨 FMCSA Cracks Down on Electronic Logging Device (ELD) Fraud The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) is taking steps to combat rising ELD fraud, including drivers using multiple logins to bypass hours-of-service rules. The agency is increasing enforcement, monitoring ELD performance data, and exploring new technological requirements. This crackdown follows a fatal 2022 crash involving falsified ELD records. FMCSA aims to improve transparency and accountability, potentially introducing new requirements for tracking ELD data entries. The focus is on preventing fatigued driving, which poses serious safety risks on the road. #truckingjobs #truckingcompany #hmdtrucking

The International 4070B Transtar wasn’t just any cabover – it was a powerhouse that defined heavy-duty trucking in the ‘70s. From the legendary Super Transtar with its V-12 Detroit Diesel to the mighty Transtar II offering the Cummins KT-450, this truck could haul up to 144,000 lbs and handle it like a pro. Drivers loved its nimble handling and serious torque for its time, but changing length laws in 1976 marked the decline of Class 8 cabovers. Ever drive one of these? During World War I and II, drivers strapped massive gas bags to the roofs of their cars, buses, and trucks just to stay on the road! 🚗💨 These 'gas bag vehicles' ran on town gas, requiring nearly 800 gallons of gas to replace just one gallon of gasoline. The result? Hilariously bulky vehicles that couldn’t even fit under most bridges! While far from efficient, these quirky rigs kept people moving when gasoline was hard to find. Ever seen one of these on the road? 🤯 #HMDhistory #hmdtrucking #TruckingHistory #WWIITechnology #GasBagVehicles #WhenFuelWasScarce
