Regular mammogram screenings are essential for early detection and prevention of breast cancer. The American Cancer Society recommends that women aged 40 and older get a mammogram every year. The earlier it’s found, the better the chances for effective treatment. Protect your health by staying up to date on your screenings—because early detection can save lives. Schedule your mammogram today at hoag.org/mammogram. #BreastCancerAwareness

Meet Traci Swenson (second from left), our dedicated Breast Cancer Nurse Navigator at Hoag! With over 30 years of oncology experience, Traci has been a vital part of our team since 1989. Her journey from medical secretary to Breast Cancer Nurse Navigator is a testament to her passion for patient care and continuous learning. As a navigator, Traci guides patients through their cancer treatments and into survivorship. She teaches classes for newly diagnosed patients, facilitates support groups, and provides crucial support during a challenging time. "It's so fulfilling to be there when I'm needed," Traci shares, emphasizing the importance of her role in our comprehensive breast cancer program. This #BreastCancerAwarenessMonth, Traci offers valuable advice: "Don't be afraid of mammograms. Breast cancer found sooner is easier to treat." She encourages women to take charge of their health, reminding us that knowledge is power. With dedicated professionals like Traci, Hoag continues to make a significant difference in patients' lives.

This #BreastCancerAwarenessMonth, Hoag is proud to collaborate with the Lobular Breast Cancer Alliance to raise awareness about invasive lobular carcinoma (ILC). ILC, the second most common breast cancer type, accounts for 15% of diagnoses but receives minimal research funding and currently has no targeted treatments. ILC's unique characteristics make detection challenging, especially in dense breast tissue. At Hoag Family Cancer Institute, Dr. Gary Ulaner leads pioneering research using estrogen receptor-targeted molecular imaging to improve ILC detection and treatment. On this #WorldMentalHealthDay, we’re reminded of the unique and overwhelming pressures today’s youth face—from the influence of social media to substance abuse, academic stress, and more. Alarming rates of addiction, self-harm, and suicide highlight the urgent need for mental health support. For over a decade, Hoag has been dedicated to making a difference in the lives of at-risk youth. Our ASPIRE and Young Adult Mental Health Programs, designed for ages 13-17 and 18-26, provide essential coping skills, guidance, and care for those navigating life's toughest challenges. “Being able to reach more young adults at this awesome stage of life and making sure their quality of life is improving, that’s a really great feeling,” said Dave Cook, LMFT, clinical program manager, in a recent Daily Pilot article highlighting Hoag's programs. “We’re also able to offer scholarships for young adults moving forward, with scholarship funds through the Hoag Foundation for young adults who may not have insurance or access to funds.” With program locations in Newport Beach and Irvine, our newly expanded Young Adult Mental Health Program is here to offer more resources to the community.
