Executive Director at Hollywood Food Coalition

What an honor it was to receive the Pioneer Women Award for Council District 5! Councilwoman Katy Yaroslavsky and I met several years ago while she was campaigning and what I appreciated about her most was her thoughtfulness, humility, and drive. I knew right then and there that she was someone who rolled up her sleeves and got down to business. Over these past few years, my admiration for her has grown exponentially because of her approach to the work, practical and inclusive, and her ability to get things done. I am humbled to be chosen by her and stand alongside the other women who were awarded by the other Council Districts. This recognition is not just a personal achievement; it reflects the incredible support of my colleagues, mentors, and community. I believe in the power of collaboration and lifting each other up. Thank you to everyone who has inspired and challenged me along this journey. I'm excited to continue the work at Hollywood Food Coalition to achieve food equity for all. Let’s continue to empower one another and drive positive change together! Here’s to all the remarkable and strong women out there—let’s keep pushing boundaries!

September 29 marks the 5th edition of International Day of Awareness of Food Loss and Waste, and in observance and recognition of it, we want to highlight and express our gratitude to our partners Misfits Market/Imperfect Foods for their commitment to minimizing food waste through regular donations to Hollywood Food Coalition. By providing us with high-quality surplus food, they not only help reduce food loss but also contribute to our efforts in serving food-insecure communities across Los Angeles. Their support allows us to provide nutritious meals and work toward achieving food equity, ensuring that no edible food goes to waste and more people in need are nourished. Please consider supporting our campaign to help us continue this vital work. https://lnkd.in/gSVRBuNm https://lnkd.in/gnFiPfXR

  • We're excited to highlight our partnership with Covenant House California, which provides support for youth experiencing homelessness, ages 18-24. They offer a full continuum of services to meet young people's physical, emotional, educational, vocational, and spiritual well-being, providing them with the best chance for success in independence. Covenant House California receives weekly food donations from Hollywood Food Coalition to support their meal program, a service that has enabled their team to save on the cost of fresh ingredients and allocate those savings toward direct services. Utilizing creativity to bridge youth, businesses, and communities, and transforming giving back into an inspiring and impactful journey.

A big thank you to Hollywood Food Coalition for highlighting our incredible partnership and recognizing the outstanding work our frontline staff does every single day. Our collaboration began with our outreach team visiting HFC community dinner and assisting with the distribution of essential items. This quickly grew into a mutually beneficial partnership, with their weekly donations of food significantly supporting our meal program. With food prices on the rise, this partnership couldn’t have come at a better time, helping us stretch our resources further and continue providing essential services to our young people. Want to make an impact? Get involved, whether it’s donating, volunteering, or just spreading the word. Collaboration drives change! 👏🏾 Asher Landau Arnali Ray, LMFT Linda Pianigiani #FoodInsecurity #NonprofitPartnership #CommunitySupport #HomelessYouth #RisingFoodCosts #MakeADifference #LosAngeles

  • We were delighted to have Fig Tree Cafe’s chef and co-owner, Dashiell Nathanson, join Chef Collin Leaver at the Community Dinner this month for another installment of our Culinary Collaborations initiative, with support from Cedars-Sinai. A bon vivant in spirit and a maker at heart, Dashiell’s obsession with craft and tradition has led him around the world with long stints in East Asia, South America, and Europe. His focus on food and culture drove him back to cooking in top kitchens across the U.S. As one of the owners of Fig Tree Café in Venice Beach, after a chapter in architecture and fragrance, he now spends his time building the culture of the cafe through its food, drink, and experience, with future plans to grow the Venice dining scene with new projects.    Tapping into the many cuisines experienced through his travels, Chef Dashiell worked with Chef Collin to create a full menu for our guests filled with flavors from Central and South America. To start, he prepared a flavorful oven-roasted Achiote and tangerine chicken, accompanied by Colombian frijolada, a comforting, filling, and hearty bean dish. Achiote is a Central American shrub that yields a seed with an incredible flavor. Around South and Central America, as well as Mexico, cooks use Achiote to add delicious nuance to dishes.     Since it’s summer, he topped it all off with a fresh combination of tomatoes and melon salad, dressed with a lemon, white balsamic, oil and mint dressing. Simple and refreshing!  We invite you to try his recipes which Chef Dashiell and Chef Collin created using rescued ingredients from our Community Exchange!
