It was horrifying to watch footage of the July 13th assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump here in Pennsylvania. We mourn the loss of Corey Comperatore, who was murdered while heroically protecting his family. Our hearts also go out to those wounded during the rally, including David Dutch and James Copenhaver. We are grateful for the Secret Service's defensive gun use that stopped the criminal threat. In these trying times, we must keep our wits about us. Let us remain steadfast as Americans, governed by our love for liberty, care for others, and determination not to allow evil to win. May we never become complacent or take for granted our duty to elect and hold accountable our government designed to represent us, the people. As firearms are a trending topic, it is important to note that we could not ask for a better community. URGENT: I’ve formally requested that Hold My Guns® be removed from the resource list of the federally-funded Pause to Protect https://lnkd.in/e8N86JA5 program, where we were included without our knowledge or permission. It is hyperlinked to the September 26th Biden-Harris gun control Executive Orders. Because the program looks so much like Hold My Guns®, people are understandably concerned and confused. I'm getting weary from explaining that we aren't part of this program. Given the urgency to protect our good name, I can't wait until I’ve heard from all parties involved before sharing this. It is a public site, and I think a public response is justified.  If you're interested in why it's crucial that we do not endorse these efforts, please read my letter (linked below) to the project's Outreach Coordinator. I suspect (and hope!) that many in our firearms community who endorsed the program—though it's the weekend and I haven’t heard from them yet—are unaware of the gun control ties within the program's leadership. RePosted @themandomedic: "When I first started having suicidal ideations, I briefly considered whether having firearms around was the best idea. I quickly dismissed the thought in fear of losing access to my means of self defense. After all, I could keep myself in check. Then I pulled the trigger and learned just how impulsive the act of suicide often is. After that, I made the extremely difficult decision to have a friend take possession of my firearms until I was in a more stable place. With the ups and downs that followed the attempt, this undoubtedly saved my life. Asking for help is hard enough. Asking for help in removing the very tools that make us feel safe when our brains have turned our inner thoughts into a warzone is even harder. Trust me, I know. However, swallowing your pride is worth it in this case. See, those ideations are only one bad night or a fifth of Jack away from being an attempt. An attempt you’re unlikely to survive. An attempt that is much more likely to succeed if your firearms are only an arm’s reach away. If you’re wondering whether it’s best for you to have firearms around you right now, the answer is probably no. I’d be happy to chat with any of you who are in this struggle, though. If you decide to keep them around and are experiencing ideations: - Create small barriers of space or access between you and the firearm, especially when you’re drinking - Put a photo of your family on top of it If you decide to transfer custody of your firearms until you are more stable: - Know your local laws regarding transfer of firearms - Choose someone you trust exceptionally well - Document everything that exchanges hands, including serial numbers - Have a plan for how to determine you are ready to have them returned You should all also check out @holdmygunsorg for more awesome information on this topic.
