Telecommunicator of the Year – Sarah Murray Sarah has been with the Holly Springs Police Department for over 15 years. Over the course of her tenure, she has been a calming presence on the other end of the telephone when residents are facing a crisis in their lives. She has utilized her experience and resourcefulness in locating missing people, determining warrants for wanted subjects and quickly dispatching emergency medical care and the fire department when needed. She often goes out of her way to assist officers by developing and obtaining crucial information needed in their investigations, saving them valuable time; often finding it more easily than junior officers. She takes on any task, request, or challenge asked of her and always is successful and productive. She is able to obtain information, locate information, and always knows what to do and how to do it. She constantly goes above and beyond the expectations of her duties, often volunteering for special community events, and taking on other responsibilities. Many officers and supervisors have commented that they “don’t know what they would do without her”. She holds the highest integrity, honesty, and loyalty a department could want in a telecommunicator and a colleague. Her knowledge of both open source and criminal justice databases is exceptional and an asset to the department. She truly has the intuition for figuring things out and shares this ability with her coworkers for the betterment of the community. Rookie of the Year – Officer Megan Wells with the Holly Springs Police Dept Sponsored by Mark Campbell with Endurance Fence Solutions, LLC Officer Wells has been with our department since November 2023 and is assigned to the patrol A squad. She has excelled in her short tenure with the Holly Springs Police Department. She is very compassionate, hardworking, and constantly displays the initiative to do her best and serve those in need on calls for service and ensure everyone is treated fairly and with empathy. She has completed a Crisis Intervention Training (CIT) course, radar recertification, and has volunteered to be one of the department’s Domestic Violence Coordinators. Officer Wells is a consummate team player, constantly displays a good attitude, and is friendly to everyone she meets. During her first year in the department, she has challenged herself to exceed and expand her base of knowledge. This officer volunteers to fill in when other squads are short-staffed and for special events. She is determined to complete her assignments thoroughly and always wants to fully investigate residents’ concerns beyond what is expected of the average first-year patrol officer. Officer Wells often expresses the desire to expand her horizons and seek more training to advance her career. She confidently accepts any task given to her and goes out of her way to connect with the community. She is off to a great start with the Holly Springs Police Department and her efforts are recognized and appreciated by her team and the Town of Holly Springs.
