Last week, Center for Scholars & Storytellers hosted their Teens and Screens summit at UCLA. There were some INCREDIBLE speakers (several from our HCS community!) like Alyson Stoner, Maddy Roth, Eduardo Cisneros, Joy Gorman Wettels, Daniel Schienart, Meredith Goldberg-Morse, Dustin Lance Black, Meg LeFauve, and many many more. We featured Dr. Yalda Tehranian-Uhls, the center's Founder and CEO, at our 2024 conference and she spoke to the importance of programming for children and adolescents: "I don’t think there’s enough attention to adolescent programming. Adolescence is a really important time. It’s now defined ages 10-25 and it’s a time of cognitive flexibility… their brains are really open… they’re figuring out who they are... This is the time where media can have the most positive impact.”

Leah Thomas drops dialogue and plot line pitches for your next story at our 2024 conference: Dialogue: "OMG I have to plug my nose every time I drove over this highway because there’s a stench in my neighborhood" Plot line: That turns into the realization that there’s a toxic landfill or waste site in the neighborhood. Other mentions: - There aren’t enough trees - There’s more asthma in a community #hollywoodclimatesummit #climatestorytelling #storytelling #climate #media #entertainment #environment #intersectionalenvironmentalism #tv #movies #film

Rosanna Xia at our 2024 conference speaks to The Great Derangement by Amitav Ghosh, and 'the failure of our own imagination'. "The crux of his argument is that... if you look at all literature (climate change) it gets siloed into the science fiction or dystopian genre. Because we are unable to think of something with wildfires and hurricanes and extreme events as real... climate change is a failure of our own imagination." #climatechange #climate #environment #storytelling #writing #hollywood #media #entertainment #climateaction

“We’re living in a world with a ton of climate storytelling mostly being done by oil and gas industries… a narrative that has been created by very very smart, very creative, very savvy people that has built our understanding of: what’s going on, who’s to blame, what we should do about it.” - Dorothy Fortenberry during the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) Rewrite the Future program at our 2024 Conference Check out these partner organizations working to combat climate disinformation through investigative reporting, education, and advocacy: 🔵 Drilled Media 🔵 Creatives for Climate Collective 🔵 Climate Town + Rollie Williams 🔵 Clean Creatives + Fossil Free Media 🔵 Hip Hop Caucus 🔵 The Climate Reality Project 🔵 Beyond Petrochemicals 🔵 Earthjustice

We laughed, we cried, we realized how many dentists are being bought out by Big Toothpaste🦷🪥 Part 2 of our #climateweeknyc program featured a comedic, investigative journalism experience presented by Drilled Media, sponsored by Climate Power and The Carmack Collective. Shoutout to our hilarious panelists —> Josh Gondelman, Yamaneika Saunders, and Juan Manuel Benítez. An important call to action from Amy Westervelt + Drilled: Read or listen to climate reporting from your local news outlets. When you like a piece, let them know by giving them a call. ☎️ Why a call?☎️ Most newsrooms consider 1 person calling as equivalent to the viewpoints of 100K people.

Love The Hollywood Reporter featuring our program with Drilled Media at our NYC summit last week. #informationpollution #madmenofbigoil #hollywoodclimatesummit
Absolutely LOVE that The Hollywood Reporter came to the "Mad Men of Big Oil" panel we did as part of Hollywood Climate Summit at #ClimateWeek and picked up on "information pollution" as a better way (imho) to talk about #disinformation. Yes, there are misleading messages, they abound! I think of them as like the pond scum or out-of-control algal bloom you might find in a polluted watershed...they're the stuff we see, the obvious problem. But the rot goes deeper, and we have GOT to start addressing the health of our information ecosystem if we're going to be able to address really any big problem, let alone an existential threat. https://lnkd.in/d9NNB-gb
