Young athletes increasingly favour deals with lesser known brands that align with their personal values and allow them to play a bigger role, creatively and commercially. Jake Hardy's Sokito has convinced around 50 footballers from the Premier League to the MLS to invest and become ambassadors for the brand's eco-friendly football boots, Omar Bailey's FCTRY LAb is now designing custom cleats for six players in the NFL ahead of next season after making a statement with Jalen Ramsey's custom-build JR 1s independent of a major sportswear brand, while Rommel Vega's HOLO Footwear enticed young Cleveland Cavaliers star Isaac Okoro by offering him equity, input into the design process of his signature shoes, and the chance to play an active role in growing a minority-owned sneaker business.
