About us

Hopscotch Montessori is fostering child-driven independence, academic discovery, creative exploration and a mindset of sustainability. Our network was established in 2008 and now spans four campuses in New York City, Toronto, and Kyiv, with a community of 300 families speaking 30 languages and big plans for the future, including expansions to London and Tokyo. We reinvent education by creating environments where children are eager to discover the world around them and find their unique place within it. Every student in our schools is a global citizen, exposed to diverse languages, traditions, and perspectives. Our vibrant community consists of international families with a multitude of geographical and cultural backgrounds. We view teaching as an art and recognize that we are more than just a Montessori school. We have integrated the latest curricula, encouraging our teachers to create a “WOW effect” in every classroom. Our most important task is to ensure that every student feels happy, safe, and inspired. Hopscotch Montessori Inc.'s headquarters are located in the heart of Manhattan. We are members of the AMS (American Montessori Society), adhering to international standards of education. Every journey begins with the first step. • We are thrilled to announce that Hopscotch Montessori’s Upper Elementary students will participate in the Montessori Model UN (MMUN) Conference in New York City in February 2025. This provides our students with a unique opportunity for global social engagement, perfectly aligning with our peace curriculum. MMUN is a simulation where students act as ambassadors, debating real-world issues. They will choose a country, study its UN roles, and prepare by exploring its history, alliances, and proposing solutions to global challenges. The 2025 committees will address topics like disarmament, food security, and health coverage. This experience equips students with skills in research, problem-solving, and global citizenship, bringing peace education to life. #hopscotchmontessorivia57

  • Twice a week, during afternoon classes, our students are exposed to a foreign language. Currently, our students are engaged in the study of Mandarin, French, and Spanish. The exposure provides them with a rich linguistic and cultural experience, preparing them for a diverse global society. Beyond the immediate advantage of being able to communicate in a second language, exposure to a foreign language nurtures flexible thinking. It’s known that children can learn to see things from different perspectives when they are able to use a wider range of vocabulary. As a result, when children engage with poetry, music, and conversations in foreign languages, they acquire the skill to decipher familiar concepts and make connections to larger themes. The world is full of stories waiting to be understood, and we’re giving our students the keys to unlock them! #hopscotchmontessorivia57

  • A new season of our trips to the Residency in the picturesque Pocono Mountains has begun! This time, both our Lower and Upper Elementary students embarked on this adventure together. The children were thrilled to return to our favorite cabin after a long break. We fed the fish in the pond, went hiking in the woods, played outdoors, told stories by the fireplace, and foraged in the garden for delicious berries 🙂 There was also the traditional cooking of dinner by the students themselves—this time we had Italian cuisine with pasta, wood-fired pizza, and caprese. The children were very proud of their independence and had become professional chefs! In addition to the fun, the students spent their time productively and made many new discoveries. First, they had a Writer’s Workshop in the fresh air, during which they wrote an essay about their thoughts and feelings while observing nature. Secondly, they had a Spanish lesson on the culture, holidays, and traditions of Mexico, led by an educator from the Magnolia Children’s Forest Garden Center. This was excellent additional practice for the students’ Spanish studies! Finally, the children collected autumn leaves in the forest and compared them with an atlas, learning to identify trees by their leaves. There was also plenty of drawing, reading, and socializing in a circle. This trip had a WOW effect on all the students, and they are already looking forward to returning! #hopscotchmontessorischool #hopscotchmontessorivia57

  • Last Friday, we celebrated International Peace Day by bringing the children together to sing about harmony, love, and friendship. We lit candles and added live music to the celebration — guitar and keyboard accompanied the singing, making the event even more special. Students and teachers sang «Light a Candle for Peace» while discussing how peace on Earth starts with peace within ourselves. During circle time, the children shared their thoughts: «Peace is a smile,» «Peace is my family,» «It’s when Mom hugs me.» 🙌 Peace is helping each other, singing, dancing, taking care of plants, and more. Even cleaning up and keeping things in order is part of creating peace! The Montessori method is filled with the idea of peace in all aspects. Together with the students, we continue to learn kindness, gratitude, and peaceful conflict resolution, striving to be good role models for them every day. #hopscotchmontessorivia57 #hopscotchmontessorischool

  • Conflicts in the Montessori Classroom: how we help children handle them through Peace Education Resolving difficult situations is an essential part of the learning process at Hopscotch Montessori, helping children develop communication skills. Even in the Toddler group, where little ones may struggle to speak, we teach them to protect their boundaries non-verbally by using the gesture for "no." As they grow, children begin to express their feelings using phrases that teachers model for them. This helps them learn how to stand up for themselves while respecting others. When children move to the Primary group, new challenges arise related to working together with materials and sharing belongings. We help them develop patience, the ability to wait their turn, and respect for the choices of others. Students learn how to politely ask for and negotiate joint work. These are important steps in developing empathy and cooperation. To resolve conflicts, we have a Peace Shelf in our classrooms stocked with special tools: the Peace Rose, Love Lights, emotion cards, a Calming Jar, and more. These tools help children discuss their feelings through dialogue and find solutions. #hopscotchmontessorischool

  • Homework in the Hopscotch Montessori Elementary classroom is a valuable opportunity for students to apply their knowledge and skills, integrating school and home life. Through homework exercises, children reinforce their math, reading, and language skills while gaining independence and self-control. We also incorporate elements of research and creativity to make the assignments more engaging for students. 🙌 They often work on cultural and scientific projects, preparing presentations, essays, public talks, crafts, and models. This approach focuses on practical life experiences that develop executive functioning skills: planning, goal setting, and following multi-step directions. We always recommend that parents encourage their children to take ownership of their homework and complete it independently. 🫂 Students learn more from their own mistakes, and at Hopscotch, we foster a culture of positive attitudes toward mistakes and supportive feedback at all levels. You can make the experience enjoyable for them by showing interest in their work and maintaining a positive outlook! #hopscotchmontessorivia57
