Meet Alexis Verson, AICP, a Senior Transportation Planner located in our Salt Lake City, Utah, office! Alexis has been a part of the Horrocks team for 4 years leading planning efforts for transportation projects. In her role, Alexis wears a lot of hats and cross-coordinates with many other teams to ensure project success. “Planning is the first step for projects.” Alexis shared in an interview. ”It is a collaborative, data-driven process that involves a lot of community and leadership engagement to identify and define a project’s goals, needs, and impact. Through our work, by the time a project gets to the design phase, you have a great product that people are supportive of. It’s a great tool for building consensus.” Please join us in celebrating Alexis’ work and her role by swiping through the post and learning more about our planning services on our website at: https://lnkd.in/gv5CdCwE.

Last week, our Pleasant Grove, Utah, office invited upcoming graduates to a “reverse career fair” where they could explore career opportunities at Horrocks and meet our team members. The event offered students a look into our culture, ongoing projects, and the daily responsibilities of engineers within the industry. “Horrocks Day was a huge success this year! I was thrilled by the turnout of talented students who attended, and it was amazing to see our office buzzing with energy from both the students and staff. The enthusiasm and engagement made it a truly memorable event!” shared Taylor Polad-Torres, a Recruiting Specialist.     If you’re interested in becoming a part of the Horrocks team, send your resume to our recruiting team at recruiting@horrocks.com!     #AtHorrocks #HorrocksDay #Careers #CivilEngineeringCareers

Sending a big THANK YOU to our amazing clients, partners, and staff as we celebrate our Las Vegas office’s 10.777-year anniversary! This is an exciting milestone for our Nevada teams as we showcase the many achievements of our office over the past decade, including our expanded reach to work on more #designbuild projects, our staff growth, and the many great relationships we’ve fostered within Nevada in the communities where we work, live, and play.   ♠ Growing Team – Since 2013, our Las Vegas office has grown from just two staff members to 85 employees strong and an additional office in Reno!   ♠ Nearly 500 Projects – Over the past decade, our Nevada teams have worked on a total of 493 projects, with some of the most current highlights being the design for the Summerlin Parkway/CC-215 Interchange, Reno SBX design-build, design and construction management for Jones Boulevard-Blue Diamond Road to Windmill Lane, and the design for the I-80 West Reno Bridge Replacements project.   ♠ Thanks to Our Clients – We value our relationships with our clients and thank them for their continued trust and partnerships throughout the years.     We are so proud of all the hard work that our teams have done for our clients to build Horrocks in Nevada into what it is today. Last week, our Colorado team met with and taught young women about the world of civil engineering at the Transportation and Construction GIRL Day in Golden, Colorado. During this event, our team hosted an interactive activity where young women learned about civil engineering concepts that go into building a park. Our sand tables featured several hands-on civil engineering concepts, including identifying utilities such as buried power, sewer, water, and gas lines; determining existing environmental factors to protect; proposing additional design elements such as roadways, sidewalks, bridges, and trails; and determining the best location for structural elements such as playgrounds or skate parks. In some of our demonstrations, girls were asked to negotiate the land rights before they could begin building! Thank you to everybody who attended this event to empower young women and help them consider new opportunities and careers in the industry!

Our Colorado team had a great time meeting with and teaching young women about the world of civil engineering at the Transportation and Construction GIRL Day held on Sept 26 in Golden, Colorado. During the event, we hosted an interactive activity where young women learned about civil engineering concepts that go into building a park. Our sand tables featured several hands-on civil engineering concepts, including buried power, sewer, water, and gas lines to identify; existing environmental factors needing to be protected; roadways, sidewalks, bridges, and trails to include in the design; and determining the best location for structural elements such as playgrounds or skate parks. In some of our demonstrations, girls were asked to negotiate the land rights before they could begin building.   Additionally, we created a matching game which required girls to read a short job description with photos, then match it with the civil engineering career the pictures describe.    This event means so much to me as a woman who, as a young person, never knew all the avenues civil engineering offered. Never did I ever think I would work for an engineering firm, much less hold a position where I have the chance to learn about, understand, and then share in these opportunities to empower young women to consider and explore careers in the industry.   I'm humbled by Horrocks’ commitment to service and the opportunity I have here to give back to our community.

The Ogden Dumke Arts Plaza has received the “2024 ENR Best Project Award” for landscape and urban development! It was an honor to have contributed to this innovative project that promotes the arts and fostered economic growth in Ogden. Our team provided roadway and utility improvements of Ogden Avenue to inform the design. We incorporated a simple streetscape design with grading and utilities of the Dumke Plaza. Stormwater was detained on-site and incorporated into the City's system as part of a Low Impact Development (LID) design.   Thanks, and congrats to all those who helped make this project happen! Hogan & Associates Construction Sasaki We look forward and are excited to continue contributing to Utah cities as part of the Horrocks team!

I am excited to announce that I will be teaching a class on Distribution Systems on Tuesday, October 1, at 9:15 a.m. at the upcoming NM Rural Water Fall Conference. My class will go over pipeline basics, including material types, valves, pressure, flow, and energy loss. After the class, come see me and my Horrocks team at booth #28! I'm proud to support rural water utilities across New Mexico in their mission to serve our communities. – did you know that 85% of all water systems in New Mexico serve less than 5,000 people? Or that 95% serve less than 500 homes? Getting rural communities access to these resources is important to me, and I’m looking forward to discussing this topic and connecting with other professionals at the conference!  #AtHorrocks #NMRWA2024 #RuralWaterCommunities #WaterDistributionSystems #PipelineBasics
