We work as partners with those experiencing homelessness - to restore dignity + respect, and ultimately achieve housing.
About us
For many who are living on the streets, House of Hope CDC is a safe place, somewhere to call "home". We are their surrogate family and friends. We are the person they reach out to time and time again to talk through a crisis, ask questions, and receive guidance. As a result of these relationships, House of Hope CDC knows what it takes to move someone off the streets and into housing - and keep them there, by developing high-quality affordable housing and offering the best social services in the field. Coupled with our experience as an affordable housing developer, we are well-positioned to not only build structures but build people. We believe that a home can change a life.

"We have a great team of people who have been working on this feverishly, day in and day out, so we can bring this online as quickly as possible and in a way that meets all the requirements in support of life safety for the occupants." Laura Jaworski, Executive Director of House of Hope, shared yesterday during an ECHO Village update interview on the Matt Allen Show. To hear the full update, listen here. https://lnkd.in/e-zVA4q2

“People are unhoused because they cannot afford a place to live, and punitive measures like this ordinance only compound that challenge,” Laura Jaworski told the Globe on Friday. “We cannot ‘fine’ our way out of the current housing and homelessness crisis,” To read more about this newly proposed ordinance in Cranston, click here - https://lnkd.in/eaX3dxNP

Homelessness in Rhode Island has increased by almost 35% in the last year. This is only a glimpse of the crisis being faced in our state - a crisis that will continue to grow worse if we do not ACT NOW. Help bring hope to those in Rhode Island looking for a second chance. With a reputation of being innovative, out of the box thinkers, House of Hope launched Shower to Empower in April of 2018. Ultimately we hope some day a service like this will not be necessary, we are proud of all that Shower to Empower has been able to provide over the last 6 years. Here are the numbers as of June 2024 - and while it is important to recognize these numbers it is also very important to remember that those served are more than just numbers receiving more than just services; they are receiving a chance to restore their hope and dignity.

"More than a month after Providence ordered roughly 60 people out of the city’s two largest homeless encampments, in mid-May, citing safety concerns, drug overdoses among the unhoused are up. And outreach workers offering the life-saving overdose prevention medication naloxone, known as Narcan, said the crackdown was driving their clients farther out of reach." Read more of The Public's Radio 89.3FM article on how the disbandment of homeless encampments is resulting in an uptick of drug overdoses among those experiencing homelessness in Rhode Island. https://lnkd.in/e5DTBVUE

All said, Jaworski noted how she and other advocates have watched other cities and towns around the country set up these kinds of “rapidly deployable units” at a quicker pace. “The reality is, though, my street-based outreach team is seeing firsthand the increase in need and demand for safe, dignified shelter – for safe affordable housing,” she said. “And to very much feel that in real time has been a very difficult space to sit in.” Thank you to the Warwick Beacon for helping us to deliver an important update on ECHO Village.
