The latest installment in the Urban Land Institute article series by HOU Chief Operating Officer Susan Connelly and Scott Pollack, Opportunity Communities, LLC President of the Board of Managers, is live! Their latest piece details the complexity of housing regulations and their unintended impact on housing affordability and supply. It highlights how a web of federal, state, and local agencies regulates various aspects of the housing ecosystem, often without considering how these policies affect housing availability and cost. "There is an almost invisible web of agencies regulating bits and pieces of the housing ecosystem. Their rulemaking is typically done with neither the authority nor the requirement to consider whether their policies promote, or hinder, available and affordable housing." Susan and Scott also express the need for a more coordinated and thoughtful approach to regulating housing, suggesting that while reforms to zoning laws are necessary, addressing the regulatory and funding frameworks is equally important for addressing the current housing crisis. Sonaly and her daughter recently moved into their brand new apartment at The Kenzi. Welcome to your new home, Sonaly! The HOU case management and resident relocation team builds a strong relationship with residents like Sonaly across the country by providing supportive and relocation services during the redevelopment projects that impact their homes. In partnership with the Preservation of Affordable Housing and the Boston Housing Authority, HOU provides temporary relocation and case management services to Whittier Street Apartment residents at Bartlett Station, including at The Kenzi, as part of a five-phase redevelopment project. Led by HOU Project Manager Marisa Rodrigues, HOU Senior Relocation Coordinator Katherine DiCesare and Relocation Coordinator Porsha Owen Wilkins provides temporary relocation services and support, and HOU Lead Case Manager Megan Daniels works closely with residents through case management. The HOU Resident Services team at Northwest One & Park Morton site hosted a Resident Appreciation event. As the residents shared lunch, they shared the impact of HOU's resident services on the families over the years. The Park Morton residents expressed their excitement for Park Morton's redevelopment project.

The HOU team at Eastchester Gardens hosted an Appreciation Breakfast event to thank the residents for participating in the social services needs assessment conducted by the team. The event was held in the newly updated Tenant Association Room as part of the upcoming rehabilitation of Eastchester Gardens by MDG Design & Construction. The Eastchester Gardens Resident Association has selected Wavecrest Management Team, RDC Development, and Infinite Horizons, LLC, as New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) PACT Project Partners to rehabilitate Eastchester Gardens. Backpacks, school supplies, and gift cards to purchase school uniforms were distributed.
