  • Yesterday, members of our Executive Team and Board of Directors proudly represented @hawctalk at the @Houston City Council Meeting to receive a proclamation honoring Domestic Violence Awareness Day on October 1, 2024. In 1989, Congress designated October as National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, a time when advocates unite in their efforts to prevent domestic abuse and promote the resources available to those in need. During this month, we recognize the courage, strength, and resiliency of #DomesticViolence survivors and bring awareness to DV in our Houston community. At HAWC, we are responding to the prevalence of violence by increasing free and confidential access to resources through community hubs, safety planning for survivors, emergency housing, survivor empowerment, and prevention education. Together, we can create a safer Houston. Domestic Violence is preventable and takes all of us. You have a role to play. Donate, volunteer, and refer to HAWC for free resources. 🔗hawc.org/dvam

  • October is #DomesticViolenceAwarenessMonth. 💜 Domestic violence takes on many different forms, not only physical. It can be emotional, financial, digital and stalking. Abuse usually doesn't happen overnight. It creeps in and worsens as the relationship goes on. Recognizing the signs—like love bombing and gaslighting—is crucial for breaking the cycle of abuse. Let’s stand together to raise awareness and break the silence. Donate to HAWC during Domestic Violence Awareness Month and ensure survivors have continued access to HAWC’s free, confidential, 24/7 support and advocacy. 🔗www.hawc.org/dvam

Today is a major milestone—30 years of the #ViolenceAgainstWomenAct (VAWA)! Since 1994, VAWA has been a game-changer in our fight against domestic violence, sexual assault, dating violence, and stalking. In the United States over 47% of women face intimate partner violence and 1 in 3 Texans will experience domestic violence in their lifetime. These numbers represent real individuals in our communities—our neighbors, friends, and loved ones. VAWA is more than legislation; it’s a shield that protects survivors' safety and privacy. Thanks to VAWA, we can support all survivors, including the undocumented, and keep their identities safe. Help us celebrate this milestone and support our mission! Check out our #LeadershipCampaign by visiting our website https://lnkd.in/gpvUs7xX. Together, we can continue to make a meaningful impact and support those who need it most. Because one life is too many!
