Congratulations to the residents of the Cuney Homes and historic Third Ward on being awarded a $50 MILLION Choice Neighborhoods Implementation Grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. The Houston Housing Authority partnered with the City of Houston to submit in December 2023 the successful grant application. Asst. HUD Secretary Julia Gordon praised the Houston partnership for identifying an additional $650 million in public funds to leverage the $50 million HUD grant that is a catalyst for the revitalization and expansion of Houston’s oldest public housing community. The check presentation celebration at the Cuney Homes was a major milestone in this years-long journey of planning, community engagement, and financial investments into a brighter future for one of our city’s most under-resourced and under-served communities. And it marks the beginning of many years of intentional and transformational work to bring more affordable housing to the historic Third Ward. #WeRiseForOurFuture #CuneyHomes #HistoricThirdWard #DistrictD #CityofHouston
