The Humane Society of Eastern Carolina provides temporary housing, feeding, and medical care to cats and dogs in need.

About us

The Humane Society of Eastern Carolina is a private non-profit 501c3 organization that provides temporary housing, feeding, and medical care to animals in need. The Humane Society of Eastern Carolina’s mission is to serve as a safe haven for homeless and neglected pets until they find their forever home and to serve as a resource to the community. By educating the public about issues pertaining to animals, we feel that we can work towards the elimination of over breeding of dogs and cats and teach owners to be responsible pet owners. At the same time, we hope to facilitate adoption of pets to good homes so that we can allow more unwanted animals to find a temporary home with us. Help us by donating, adopting and volunteering.

Updates

  • We are so thankful to our entire community for the support they have shown over the last several days. With over 20 new cats to care for, the Humane Society of Eastern Carolina is in dire need of donations for medical treatment. None of the cats we have taken in are healthy enough to be adopted, and they will all need extensive care before being ready for their forever homes. Please consider making a donation via our website if you're able.

While taking the Experiential Leadership: Teams in Action (BUSI 2200) course during the Spring 2024 semester at East Carolina University I was paired with 5 other classmates to complete a service project. For our service project we were lucky enough to work with the Humane Society of Eastern Carolina.  We decided to sell T-shirts with the purpose of raising donations for the funding of a shed which would give them access to extra storage. I was able to utilize the Isley Innovation Hub which has become one of my favorite areas on campus. There was plenty of trial and error during the process of T-shirt printing but overall, it was a great experience and one that I thoroughly enjoyed.  I was also able to act as the main correspondence with ECU's Construction Students as they played a pivotal role in building the shed as well as curating the concrete slab for the shed itself. They were so helpful throughout this process and this project would not have come together without the time and hard work which they dedicated to this project.  From this project, I learned a lot of valuable lessons. I was able to learn practical skills in teamwork, project management, problem solving, community engagement, utilizing resources, networking, and most importantly, impact. I could not have asked for a better service project and I am extremely grateful to have worked with such an amazing team.  I would like to thank my professor, Miss Holly Winkler, for her invaluable support and guidance during this semester which allowed us to put our plans to action. I would also like to thank the Isley Innovation Hub for providing us with the resources we needed to make our project a reality. The ECU Construction Students’ involvement was crucial to the project’s success and I am so grateful for their collaboration.  This project has been an incredible learning experience, and I am so grateful to have been apart of it. Thank you to everyone who supported us along the way!

  • We can’t thank the Associate General Contractor chapter at East Carolina University enough for helping us increase our storage capacity for supplies at our facility!

Commercial Construction Management. Associated General Contractors.

Yesterday, the ECU Associate General Contractor chapter had an enjoyable and incredible learning experience. Our goal was to pour a concrete slab and build a shed for the Humane Society of Eastern North Carolina. Special thanks to my father, Mr. Nelson Fuentes, for sharing his concrete knowledge/expertise and providing guidance throughout the entire process. Can’t think of a better way to cap off this semester and looking forward to participating in more opportunities with Associated General Contractors!
