“I hope, one day, that we can get to a place where we understand the benefits of programs like this, and then we pour more resources … as opposed to ‘Let’s just tie the person up and house them and then, one day, let the same individual waltz back into the community thinking that we’re going to get something different.’” Despite the fact that Pell Grants are now available to all incarcerated people in the United States, opportunities for obtaining a college degree are still scarce for incarcerated Pennsylvanians. Opening Doors, Unlocking Futures
About us
We envision lives that are transformed with the help of education in order to break the cycle of crime and poverty. To make this vision a reality, Hudson Link for Higher Education in Prison provides college education, life skills, and re-entry support to currently and formerly incarcerated people so they can make a positive impact on their own lives, their families, and communities, resulting in lower rates of recidivism, incarceration, and poverty. In 1994, college degree programs at Sing Sing Correctional Facility and other New York State Prisons were terminated when state and federal governments withdrew financial support. In 1998, aware of the devastating effect this would have on prison morale, Hudson Link for Higher Education was formed to fill this incredible need. In 2001 seventeen men at Sing Sing graduated from the Hudson Link program with a Bachelor's degree. Today: Hudson Link has granted over 1,000 degrees and over 1,500 of our alumni have been released and are leading productive lives in their communities and with their families. We currently sponsor college credit-bearing and college-degree granting programs in Sing Sing, Sullivan, Greene, Green Haven, Shawangunk, and Taconic Correctional Facilities, in partnership with nine local colleges.

Over 2 million New Yorkers struggle with food insecurity, increasing likelihood of chronic illnesses and mental health challenges. We are inspired by our grantee partner Meals on Main Street for their innovative partnership with Hudson Link for Higher Education in Prison using food to build a caring and supportive community. Their program provides an opportunity to formerly and currently incarcerated individuals to build life skills serving meals from their mobile food trucks and visiting different neighborhoods throughout the region, getting fresh food to food-insecure communities. As we approach the weekend, let’s pause for a moment to look back on this #FlashbackFriday and appreciate our journey from the beginning to where we are now. With our New Beginnings initiative expanding and serving as a safe haven for our recently released alumni as they reintegrate into society, Hudson Link’s wraparound services focus on the holistic improvement of the individual, addressing more than just their academic well-being. We are truly grateful to pioneer this groundbreaking initiative with the assistance of our donors, public officials, staff, and amazing supporters. Thank you all for the encouragement, kindness, and esteem you show towards our organization. #reentrymatters #higheredinprison #hudsonlink #newyorkcity

"At Sullivan Correctional Facility, a maximum-security prison in the Catskill Mountains in New York, I’m incarcerated with men who have earned college degrees while incarcerated and who fill their days with volunteer work. Despite bettering our lives — or aging out of criminal behavior — we have no opportunity to demonstrate our rehabilitation outside of parole hearings that may come decades in the future." Joseph S, a Hudson Link Alum, writes an insightful op-ed in which he explains the significance of policies such as The Second Look Act and how they can create a more conducive environment for incarcerated individuals to demonstrate their rehabilitation. “There's a lot of criminal justice films that come out, that's in Sundance or Tribeca. And I always wish that we had some folks to speak to whether these stories are something that are viable or not. Whether they're realistic or not,” said Lawrence Bartley, one of the organizers with the Marshall Project, who was previously incarcerated at Sing Sing. “This is our opportunity to do that.” Next month, on October 24th, a group of Hudson Link alumni and other men from Sing Sing Correctional Facility will judge the state's first known film festival inside a correctional prison. We are thrilled that our renowned alumni will be able to participate in this fantastic opportunity, and we look forward to adding more movies to our queue. Bravo, Sing Sing Alums! A week after the Village of Ossining established Project MOVER, which provided 50 e-bikes to Ossining residents and visitors, our alumni jumped at the opportunity to participate and become certified trainers! The pilot, funded by NYSERDA’s Clean Transportation Prize program, offers affordable mobility that can operate easily over Ossining’s hilly terrain for the Village’s predominately low-income Latino and Black population. It will also advance Ossining’s goal of becoming the greenest village in the nation by increasing bike and transit trips and decreasing driving trips and carbon emissions. We'd want to thank our amazing staff and alumni for spearheading this endeavor with all involved parties. A special thank you to Drusilla van Hengel for her encouragement and effort to making this pilot a success. Now, who wants to race? 😎🚴 #ProjectMOVER #Transporatation #Ossining #HudsonLink

Inspiring Work!
As THEI kicks off the fall semester, we reflect on our students' incredible achievements this past spring. THEI celebrated a historic milestone with 20 graduates across three sites, earning degrees from Nashville State and Dyersburg State—our largest graduating class yet. These ceremonies were powerful celebrations of education as a tool for liberation. We're proud of our graduates and excited for our current students as they continue their academic journeys. Last Thursday, we had a great time celebrating the incredible accomplishments of our amazing faculty members that represent Hudson Link at their respective facilities. Without these incredible educators, we would not be able to accomplish this transformative work. Many thanks to our entire staff for making this appreciation dinner one to remember. #FacultyAppreciationDinner #HudsonLink #ThankYou

We are thrilled to witness the emergence of transportation options in the community of Ossining. This would not have been possible without your invaluable assistance. You truly are remarkable! 😀 Drusilla van Hengel
This week, the Village of Ossining (in partnership with EIT InnoEnergy, Nelson\Nygaard Consulting Associates, Drop Mobility, Shared Mobility Inc, and Cityfi) launched Project MOVER, providing 50 e-bikes for residents and visitors of Ossining, with the goal to expand to 300 e-bikes throughout Ossining and several surrounding rivertowns in Westchester County.
