  • Celebrating Juneteenth Do you know the history of Juneteenth? Juneteenth, celebrated on June 19th, commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the United States. On this day in 1865, Union soldiers arrived in Galveston, Texas, with the news that the Civil War had ended and the enslaved were now free—over two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed. The US Government adopted Juneteenth as a Federal Holiday in June 2021 and many companies have begun adding this as a paid holiday for team members, believing that understanding and honoring this pivotal moment in history is crucial for fostering a culture of inclusivity and respect in the workplace. There are various, meaningful ways to celebrate Juneteenth, including: •Educational Initiatives: Hosting webinars, workshops, and discussions to educate employees about the history and significance of Juneteenth. •Community Engagement: Partnering with local organizations for community service projects or supporting Black-owned businesses. •Company-wide Reflection: Offering a day off or reduced working hours to allow employees to reflect, participate in local events, or spend time with family and friends.
