Creating Human-Centred Technologies for a Safer, Greener, and Resource-Efficient European Construction Industry
About us
HumanTech is a groundbreaking initiative that proposes to use human-centred technologies to advance the European construction industry — increasing the safety and well-being of its workforce, improving its productivity, and making it greener and resource-efficient. From wearables (exoskeletons, cameras, XR glasses) for workers' protection and support, to robots that can collaborate with humans while contributing to the green transition of the industry. We aim to achieve major advances in these technologies and thus disrupt how construction is carried out by a new generation of highly skilled workers and engineers working in a digital, safe, and rewarding environment. On the other hand, to help create a green, circular, and more efficient construction industry, it is necessary to decrease error-prone manual labour and increase fabrication precision. This can be achieved through automation, with technologies that enable precise processes and optimized use of building materials — which we will develop in this project. These also allow for an inventory of materials used in buildings, facilitating their reuse and recycling. So, through this project, we will also be able to advance circularity in this sector, significantly reducing resource waste and greenhouse gas emissions. 22 organizations from Europe, Switzerland, Japan, and Norway will be working on this European Commission-funded project for 36 months. Follow us to stay up to date on our progress! 🤩 Proud to see our colleagues from Massivbau und Baukonstruktion, RPTU, working with one of our #HumanTechTechnologies — the Pluto robot developed by our partner Baubot — so it can navigate a construction site in a precise and automated way. Learn more about RPTU Kaiserslautern-Landau's involvement in our #HumanTechPilots and this innovative robotic platform, explained by Fabian Kaufmann: https://lnkd.in/gfNACwyJ #BuildingTheFuture #HumanTechTeam | Marius Schellen Cheng Lu Christian Glock Joseph Thomas Thekkekara
Arrival of the “Pluto” robotic platform as part of the EU-funded “HumanTech” project Since mid-July, we have been able to welcome the robot “Pluto” to our department as part of the EU-funded “HumanTech” project. The aim of one of the project demonstrators is the precise and automated navigation of the robotic platform, which was developed by the company “Baubot”. This technology is based on an IFC BIM model. Users can mark specific positions in the digital model via a user-friendly online interface. Pluto then autonomously takes over the task of approaching and marking these positions. This groundbreaking research is part of the European Union-funded “HumanTech” project, which is supported by the Horizon Europe research and innovation program. We look forward to further exploring the possibilities of this technology and demonstrating its benefits for the construction industry.
