We are so excited about the Court Dog program coming to the Newcastle registry! 🐶🐶🐶 #familylaw #auslaw #traumainformed
The Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia (Division 1 and Division 2) (‘the Courts’) are thrilled to announce the expansion of the successful Court Dog Program with the addition of three new facility dogs to operate in the Sydney, Parramatta and Newcastle registries. The purchase of the dogs has been funded by The Law Society of NSW, and the dogs will be expertly trained and supplied by Guide Dogs NSW/ACT. Chief Justice Alstergren AO stated “The investment by The Law Society of New South Wales goes a long way towards helping vulnerable court users in the state. It’s a credit to the Law Society of New South Wales and its members that they’ve decided to fund the three new dogs for our registries in Sydney, Parramatta and Newcastle. We’ve been overwhelmed at the positive reception our Court Dog Program has received in Melbourne and Hobart, so we’re beyond excited to see the impact these new additions will make in New South Wales.” The dogs to be based in the Courts’ Newcastle, Parramatta and Sydney registries will be sworn in and take their 'woof of honour' ready to commence duty early in 2025. 🐾 For more information or to view the media release see: https://lnkd.in/g5v_4nGn #fcfcoa #courtdog

Yesterday I had the privilege of presenting the lunchtime seminar for the Hunter Valley Family Law Practitioners Association on the new Right to Culture provisions contained within the amendments of 6 May 2024. My slides will be circulated to members. If you’re not a member but would still like my slides, feel free to reach out. Special thanks to my co-presenter and proud Wiradjuri woman Alison Roberts from Foat Roberts. Her cultural lived experience, high reputation and important relationships made this presentation. I would like to extend my thanks to Deeyanne Bourke from CCS and SJR Magowan for meeting with Alison and I in the run up to this presentation. Thank you also to Molly Willoughby for assisting me with the technical aspects of the presentation. As I said yesterday, I would encourage any member of Hunter Valley Family Law Practitioners Association to consider offering to present at the lunchtime seminars. Our local community is rich with diverse experience. It’s important to contribute to the space we share and all help each other to be better.
