Last month, Huntington emergency services team members and local first responders attended this year's EMS World Expo, the largest global emergency medical services (EMS) educational event, where thousands of EMS personnel around the world gather to share progress in the field and get hands-on training. “The information gained at this conference gives a global aspect to community care and is incredibly useful to our ED nurses and physicians,” said Jenny Van Slyke, prehospital program manager. “Having the opportunity to attend a conference with our fellow #EMS partners is very important to building relationships and collaboration, and I’m grateful for it.”

Congratulations to DAISY Award winner Alex Moreno, RN, from Huntington's definitive observation unit! Alex was nominated by a patient's spouse, who shared this touching story: “My husband was hospitalized at Huntington Hospital for several weeks at the beginning of 2024. During our time there, we encountered many exceptional nurses across three floors of the West Tower. The care and support they provided was truly outstanding. One nurse, Alex, went above and beyond in his dedication to my husband’s well-being and providing comfort to me. Alex served as my husband’s night nurse. My husband had been lethargic for several days without waking to speak. However, in the middle of the night, he finally opened his eyes and engaged in conversation with Alex. He spoke in detail about our family. This conversation left a lasting impact on Alex, prompting him to write me the most thoughtful note. He even described my husband as a 'superstar'! It warmed my heart to receive Alex's note. Alex's demonstration of extra care and compassion towards patients and their families exemplifies why I wish to nominate him for the DAISY Award. Thank you, Alex, for your exceptional dedication and kindness.”
