3 Facts on How Extreme Heat May Affect HVAC Equipment: Fact 1: Extreme heat can usher in certain conditions like #SummerStorms that cause HVAC damages or can highlight existing issues, but it does not cause them on its own. Fact 2: #Lightning, #hail, and #flooding are commonly claimed perils throughout the summer months. However, unbiased expert assessments often show that HVAC damages are due to another cause of loss, or that the equipment is not damaged at all. Fact 3: Many claims for non-damaged equipment in hot weather result from the HVAC system being designed to function in heat up to 95 degrees. When it is unable to keep up in extreme heat, policyholders may believe it to be damaged.

During periods of extreme heat, #homeowners rely on their air conditioning more often. When the system runs continuously, they may mistakenly attribute certain latent issues to heat damage, including: • Wear and tear to mechanical system elements • Low refrigerant levels resulting in poor cooling performance • Dirty condenser coils, evaporator coils, or other components • Condensation that has resulted in microbial growth or corrosion
