Did YOU know? Minimizing the use of acronyms can help you communicate clearer to your audience and publics? Do you unknowingly use acronyms A LOT? Yes - I know you want to get what you are doing out the door and into the hands and ears of people, however, be mindful that your clients, followers, or even coworkers may not be knowledgeable of your specific industry or the terms. Next time that you are writing or speaking, be mindful who you are speaking to, will they understand or be confused if you use acronyms/abbreviations?

I had the opportunity last week to connect and chat over coffee with other Government Communicators through my PRSA Richmond Chapter. It was great to connect in person, share ideas and advice. When was the last time you met in person with members of your network to collaborate?

Public Relations pro with a ❤️ for community service | Strategic communicator | Inclusive storyteller | Motivational speaker

If you want to master the art of public speaking… … then you need to improve how you talk to people one-on-one. In my career, I’ve acquired prime experience in individual conversations. Such as... ➡️ Collecting neighbors’ feedback during volunteer projects ➡️ Engaging with parents after my Sunday school class ➡️ Networking in professional associations And this one: Answering questions in the grocery store from the retiree who saw me on TV for Dominion Energy and wanted tips to save on her electricity use. 🔌 Like, I went there for rotisserie chicken and also got to help someone in need. Win-win. Everyday interactions lay the groundwork for speaking to a crowd, on stage, or on camera. If you leverage them, then you’ll become a better speaker and a more effective one, too. What other ways do you develop strong communication skills? Drop your tips in the comments. 📸 TV interview on WAVY-TV 10 as a media spokesperson at work #publicspeaking #community #media #communications #pr

My students talk a lot about "fake news" and how we can stop the spread of it. Media literacy has always been important but today it is NECESSARY. I think fake information spreads quickly because people do not know how to identify credible news sources. Every podcast and blog is NOT journalism. The advancement in technology has given everyone a platform to talk about their views and opinions, but being able to identify credible news sources that are held accountable if wrong information is reported is key. 🔑 What are some of your thoughts?

Did YOU know? It is important to provide a platform for your customers to talk back? 😂 Allowing a space for customers to give you feedback can help you meet the needs of your customers and clients. Platforms for two-way communication can be a website, comment box, social media, a review site, email, etc.
