Making life better by improving the power of water

About us

Hydrosome Labs is a Chicago-based B-to-B biotechnology company on a mission to change lives by changing water. Our technology, Hydrosome H2O, is a natural and chemical-free process that improves the power of water through the emerging science of ultrafine bubbles. The innovative process delivers active ingredients to cells more efficiently and completely with multiple applications across personal care and cosmetics, beverages, precision fermentation, and controlled environment agriculture. Uses range from helping plants grow faster and healthier with less fertilizer, improving nutrient uptake in skin care, delivering faster, longer lasting, and improved hydration in performance drinks and better yields for precision fermentation. Hydrosome H2O also allows manufacturers to do more with less, use fewer chemicals, reduce environmental impact, and shorten supply chains. The company and advisors include business and R&D execs from Fortune 500 companies like P&G, Goldman Sachs, and Nestle Health Sciences, as well as the Intercontinental Exchange, owner of the New York Stock Exchange. THIS MONTH IN ULTRAFINE BUBBLES: Ultrafine bubbles and liver health after alcohol consumption Here is a summary of a timely article from the Biological and Pharmaceutical Bulletin. Key takeaways and future implications for UFBs from Hydrosome Principal Scientist, Nick Jackowetz, PhD:   - The rats that drank the hydrogen ultrafine bubble water had less damage to their liver after alcohol consumption compared to those drinking regular water. - The hydrogen seemed to act like a shield, protecting the liver cells from the harmful effects of alcohol. - The tiny powerhouses in liver cells (called mitochondria) worked better in the rats that drank the hydrogen water. - The more concentrated the hydrogen bubbles were in the water, the better the protective effects. Why is this interesting? It shows that we might use these tiny bubbles to deliver helpful substances, like hydrogen, directly to our body's tissues. This could open up new ways to prevent or treat various health issues. The best part is that it's as simple as drinking water—no needles or complicated procedures are needed. While more research is needed, this study suggests that these invisible, hydrogen-filled ultrafine bubbles might one day help us stay healthier, especially when protecting our liver from alcohol damage. Since this is a rat study, we'd still need to see if this would work the same for humans. But it's an intriguing glimpse into how something as simple as water with special bubbles could make a big difference in our health. At Hydrosome Labs, we're constantly innovating new ways to use ultrafine bubbles, including adding different gases to them for various applications. These results open many new avenues for research in many different fields.

COSMETICS AND TOILETRIES EXPERT PANEL WITH HYDROSOME Thanks to C&T for including Hydrosome President Bob Jacobs on a recent expert panel. Key excerpt below. You may have to log in as a guest to view the entire article. Simpler, AI-enabled and Powered by Ultrafine Bubbles President of Hydrosome Labs, Bob Jacobs sees consumer demand for clean beauty as a driver for formulations with fewer, simpler ingredients. “This is driven by a desire to have fewer chemicals in contact with our skin, and an increasing number of people with sensitivity to the chemicals being added in today’s formulations,” he explains. “Unfortunately, the list of pure and natural ingredients that deliver superior preservation, stability and efficacy is quite short.” Jacobs continues, “We believe these trends will continue as technology catches up and better meets the desire of consumers. The use of AI in the identification of natural compounds and in the evaluation of skin types will allow for improved degrees of freedom and personalization in formulations.” Per Jacobs, one promising technology that will enable improvements in preservation, stability and efficacy across the entire spectrum of clean beauty is the use of ultrafine bubbles. “The technology was first discovered in Japan about 20 years ago,” he writes. “Its use in beauty care is relatively new, but it holds tremendous promise for increasing efficacy, preservation and active ingredient stability.” Jacobs highlights Hydrosome H2O (Aqua) as the leading brand focused on the beauty care category. “Their technology works by infusing the existing DI water used in formulations with ultrafine bubbles in the range of 50-100 nm. Those bubbles consolidate active ingredients on their surface and deliver them deeper and more effectively to skin cells. They have also shown the ability to improve preservation and ingredient stability while lasting over two years in formulations.”

𝗖𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗕𝗲𝗮𝘂𝘁𝘆 - This is an established trend not going away anytime soon. There were a large number of brands like Mixsoon US and Selenus from Korea or start-ups like The Heritage Collection, Fleurissent Skincare and Biotic Beauty with innovative clean products. 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵 𝗘𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗱 𝗕𝗲𝗮𝘂𝘁𝘆 - Technology can enable personalized beauty regimens continues to advance and become more accessible. Testing is moving beyond just skin type to looking at the make up of the skin microbiome and customizing products to support it. 𝗦𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗼𝗿𝘆 - Beyond fragrance, texture is becoming an increasingly important aspect of beauty products. The continued rise of serums and products with a unique sensorial application experience was evident at the show Encouragingly, Hydrosome H2O has promise across all of these trends. We help formulators maintain or improve efficacy while eliminating chemical permeation enhancers. We have also seen sensory improvements in application and broader research on ultrafine bubbles points to benefits for the microbiome. We are just beginning to discover the many benefits of ultrafine bubble technology for skin care.

Cooking everyday, especially for my 4 ladies whilst managing Global FoodTech VC Funds.

Institute of Food Technologists (IFT) First Learnings 👨🏻🎓 First and foremost, lesson #1 is that navigating an overwhelming trade show and conference is much more fun with a brilliant and curious co-pilot! Katie Stebbins and I took the event by storm! Joined on day one by the always sensational Einav Gefen 🎗️ The event opened with a storm. The keynote discussion was about “Revolutionizing Food Innovation Through AI” featuring Justin Honaman from Amazon, who emphasized, “#AI is not for your IT people in the organization. If you do not understand that this revolution will impact it all, you’ll be left behind.” This sentiment was echoed by Ramesh Kollepara from Kellanova. Dr. Nora K. from Nuritas claimed that by using AI, we can accelerate innovation processes that normally would have taken us hundreds of years to test into a 2 to 3-year process, including regulation for new peptides. This panel was skillfully led by Asch Harwood from ReFED, whose mission is to reduce waste. Interdisciplinary forums are critical for solving the big challenges of food system transformation- weight watchers Chief Science Officer Gary Foster. Gary also challenges how can we make #GLP1 accessible to all and not a solution to those who can afford it. Ingredients companies play a giant role in the food system. They know the trends and supply chain challenges long before the mainstream does. Charles Purcell at Foodology and Mark Brewster at Malabar Ingredients. There are exciting startups pushing the envelope in ingredients, traceability, AI, and sustainability. Our favorites this year where BCD by Vinay Indraganti, NuCicer by Kathryn Cook, Chainparency led by Henry Ines, Scentian Bio by Jonathan Good and Hydrosome Labs LLC Labs by Bob Jacobs, President. UPF’s continue to be a hot topic and contentious. Let’s solve world peace instead with the brilliant Auroni Majumdar. Tastewise booth was packed by food companies trying to understand better how to joing the AI revolution in the food industry. IFT’s trade floor of over 1,100 vendors is like the Disney World of trade show floors! So aesthetic and creative with lots of treats! 17,000 delegates and over 110 startups. Congratulations to Seán Leighton, IFT Board president (and the guy with the coolest sneaks) on an amazing event! Seeding the Future Foundation continues to be a force for good globally, supporting rising entrepreneurs who are leaning into the toughest challenges- Bravo Bernhard Van Lengerich, PhD.! Finally, Christie T., Tracy Mickelson Fink and Kristen Jain-Thut and their teams work so darn hard to build a great program. Thank you for being great hosts!!
