Why Mental Health Matters in Construction Today, on October 10th, we join the global community in recognizing #WorldMentalHealthDay. Mental well-being is particularly important in the U.S. construction industry, where long hours, high pressure, and physically demanding work contribute to widespread mental health challenges. Construction workers in the U.S. are nearly four times more likely to die by suicide than the national average. These mental health struggles, including depression and anxiety, not only affect lives but also impact productivity and increase absenteeism across the industry. How We Can Make a Difference **Start the Conversation**: Break the silence. A simple “Are you okay?” could help someone feel supported and open up. **Know the Signs**: Look for mood changes, irritability, or frequent absences in colleagues. If something seems off, trust your gut. **Encourage Healthy Habits**: Promote regular breaks, exercise, and self-care. Leaders should lead by example. Together, we can create a more supportive industry where mental health is prioritized and no one feels alone in their struggles. #ConstructionIndustry #MentalHealthAwareness #BreakTheSilence #EndTheStigma #SupportiveWorkplace #MentalHealthMatters

Toolbox Talk: Ladder Safety #SafetyFirst #ConstructionLife Ladders are essential on most job sites, but they also pose a risk if not used correctly. Let's review a few important safety tips to ensure everyone gets home safely at the end of the day: 1. Inspect Before Use: Always check the ladder for any damage or defects before use. Look for cracks, missing steps, or bent rails. If you spot an issue, don’t use it—report it to your supervisor. 2. Set It Up Properly: The base of the ladder should be placed on a stable, level surface. Remember the 4-to-1 rule: For every 4 feet of ladder height, the base should be 1 foot away from the wall. 3. Maintain Three Points of Contact: Always have two hands and one foot or two feet and one hand on the ladder while climbing or descending. 4. Don’t Overreach: Keep your body between the side rails. Overreaching can easily cause a fall. If something’s out of reach, climb down and reposition the ladder. 5. Use the Right Ladder for the Job: Choose a ladder that is appropriate for the task at hand, whether it's an extension ladder, step ladder, or a specific type. Also, make sure it's rated for the weight it will be carrying. Safety is everyone's responsibility! Let's stay aware and keep each other safe out there.
