WP4 is dedicated to scaling up and demonstrating innovative biofertilizer solutions, overcoming technical challenges, and supporting SMEs on their journey to market adoption. 🌱 How does it work? 🔹 Implementation of seven investment cases in different European regions, focusing on organic fertilizers, liquid biofertilizers, microbial solutions, and plant-extract-based biostimulants. 🔹 Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) to measure the environmental impact and economic sustainability of the developed biofertilizers. 🔹 Advisory and benchmarking services to assess market potential and build interregional value chains. 🤝 Discover all the partners of the 🌱I3-4-BIOFERTILIZERS project Let's meet Uniovo, S.A., that will coordinate the implementation and set up of a pilot plant for the demonstration of its business case, an innovation process to convert poultry manure into safe compost. The activities will include the characterization of poultry manure, development of granulation and storage condition, assessment of the agronomic value of the compost, assessment and validation, action plans for scaling-up and commercialization. During the project, Uniovo will use the consortium support services established by the project and involve its staff in the networking and capacity-building activities, while exploring opportunities for interregional cooperation in sustainable agribusiness. 🔎 Uniovo, S.A. is a medium-sized company, with 50 employees and a turnover of about 13,5M € that produces and sells laying hens shell eggs, as its main activity. However, in the near future, Uniovo aims to expand its activities to obtain more value from by-products resulting from egg production. As a leading player in the sector in Portugal, Uniovo is a reference in product quality and innovation. Uniovo strives for innovation and excellence, while ensuring adoption of the best sustainable practices in the sector. 🤝 Discover all the partners of the 🌱I3-4-BIOFERTILIZERS project The next partner is Universidade de Coimbra that will be enrolled in the technical and scientific support to the development of fertilizers from the poultry industry through composting processes, in close collaboration with Uniovo. It will also lead the task related to LCA and sustainability impact of the new developed formulations/products. Moreover, UC will also contribute to the ecosystem mapping for interregional cooperation, analysis of innovation needs, trends and state-of-the-art in the biofertilizers sector and circular bioeconomy, bringing the Portuguese perspective. 🔎 The University of Coimbra (UC) is a public law institution created in 1290, which integrates twelve organic units of teaching and research and four organic units of research (European Judicial University Court, Institute of Nuclear Sciences Applied to Health, Institute of Interdisciplinary Research and College of Arts), as well as a set of 9 units of cultural extension and training support. The main activities of the University are teaching, research and knowledge transfer. The scientific research activities of the University of Coimbra are spread over more than 30 research and development units that promote multidisciplinary approaches, involving researchers with different backgrounds and from various areas: Humanities, Law, Medicine, Technology and Science, Pharmacy, Economics, Psychology and Education, Sports Science and Physical Education. 🤝 Discover all the partners of the 🌱I3-4-BIOFERTILIZERS project Let’s introduce our partner AGRIENERGIA SPA S.p.A. leader of the Investment case #3 BIOFERTILIZERS PRODUCTION FROM COMPOST (WASTE STREAM) OF A BIOGAS PLANT and active in all WPs with particular support inWP2, WP6 and WP7. 🔎 AGRIENERGIA SPA S.p.A. is a composting facility located in San Pietro in Casale in Bologna province - Italy. It generates both electrical and thermal energy through biogas production via a dry anaerobic digestion process (Dry in batch). The facility processes different types of organic waste and residues such as food waste from households, agricltural residues and agroprocessing waste, recovering both energy and biofertilizer. After anaerobic digestion, the remaining digestate is transformed into high-quality compost, which can be used in agriculture, including organic farming. Agrienergia operates with a positive energy balance, producing 93% more energy than it consumes, making it highly efficient in terms of energy output.
