The HIATUS program aims to develop novel human-useable systems for attributing authorship and protecting author privacy. Authorship attribution capabilities address many Intelligence Community (IC) needs, including combating sophisticated malicious information campaigns online and identifying counterintelligence risks. Authorship privacy capabilities protect authors whose writing, if attributed, could place them in danger.

The Intelligence Community (IC) seeks methods for evaluating individuals and/or organisms exposed to low doses, potentially as low as 5cGray, of ionizing radiation. The methods anticipate that biomarkers discovered and models developed will leverage samples which can be collected minimally or non-invasively, to include hair, skin, sweat, and microbiome. TEI-REX will enable the IC to improve its awareness of intentional or accidental exposure events, improve protection of government personnel and uniformed service members, and support counter-proliferation efforts involving radiological material to further improve national and global security concerns. Artificial Intelligence (AI) is being increasingly applied to a variety of domains within the Intelligence Community (IC). The TrojAI program seeks to defend AI systems from intentional, malicious attacks, known as Trojans, by conducting research and developing technology to detect these attacks in a completed AI system TrojAI is researching the defense of AI systems from intentional, malicious Trojan attacks by developing technology to detect these attacks and by investigating what makes the Trojan detection problem challenging. Trojan attacks, also called backdoor attacks, rely on training the AI to attend to a specific trigger in its inputs. Read more at: https://lnkd.in/e3bS-34w

The ARTS program was formulated with the goal of developing new speech modification technologies that will alter an individual’s speech in real time, so that the modified speech can’t be attributed to the actual speaker. We inhabit a world where most modern electronics have microphones that are always listening for speech signals, and consequently our speech is recorded nearly everywhere.

While ReSCIND’s goal is to develop new cyber defense methods, its focus is different from traditional cybersecurity protocols because it is more proactive and actor-focused rather than reactive and static. Instead of just creating a new passive defense measure, like a different password or firewall, ReSCIND researchers will seek to exploit an attacker’s cognitive weaknesses. Specifically, ReSCIND will seek to improve cybersecurity for the Intelligence Community (IC) by developing a new set of cyberpsychology-informed defenses that leverage an attacker’s human limitations, such as innate decision-making biases and cognitive vulnerabilities.
