About us
The International Association for Society and Natural Resources (IASNR) is an interdisciplinary professional association open to individuals who bring a variety of social science and natural science backgrounds to bear on research and application strategies pertaining to the environment and natural resource issues. IASNR was founded in 2001 to provide a professional association to support the integration of social and natural sciences to develop research and application strategies pertaining to environmental and natural resource issues. It was preceded by its ISSRM conference, started in 1986 at Oregon State University in Corvallis, Oregon, USA and its journal, Society & Natural Resources, first published by Taylor and Francis in 1988. The IASNR aims to: 1) Foster the interdisciplinary social scientific understanding of the relationships between humans and natural resources; 2) Further the application of social science information in natural resource decision-making and 3) Provide a mechanism whereby social scientists, resource managers, practitioners, agency personnel, and decision makers can generate dialogue and useful exchange.

Call for Associate Editors Dear IASNR members, Society & Natural Resources is seeking applications for Associate Editors across all social science disciplines and natural resources topics. Associate Editors handle about 10 manuscripts a year, including inviting reviewers, considering reviewers’ comments, and making paper revision and publication recommendations to the Editors-in-Chief. Associate Editors play a crucial role in editorial decisions. The current call will result in Associate Editor appointments for two years starting in Janaury 2024. We invite colleagues who have completed their PhD and who have already published in indexed peer-reviewed journals in the broad field of environmental social science to send an application (single pdf file) to snr@iasnr.org, including: (1) a paragraph with their research expertise; (2) a list of publications; (3) a paragraph with current and past professional positions, and (4) any prior editorial experience. The deadline for submitting an application is December 15, 2023. We are looking forward to receiving your applications and expanding the community of practice around Society & Natural Resources.
