Last week, Nicholas Alcantara, PE presented at the Denver Lodging Engineers Association, 2024 Rocky Mountain Building Maintenance Expo to discuss, “How Commissioning Benefits All Buildings.” He reviewed case studies where commissioning ensured properly performing equipment and occupant comfort. Common issues that were resolved included valves and dampers left open, network issues due to too many devices on one controller, and equipment not operating per sequence (ventilation & cooling/heating issues). Wondering why commissioning for your project is needed? The service fulfills the following: · Assure owners the building will operate to their standards · Bridge the gap between engineers and contractors · Provide technical knowledge and understanding of building systems · We are there to find issues AND solve them or recommend improvements · Independent 3rd party Nick has more than 10 years of experience as a consulting engineer and has a background in design engineering and commissioning. He works closely with clients as a project manager, offering recommendations and guidance for enhancing their existing buildings or achieving optimal configurations for new projects. Interested in a lunch and learn on how commissioning can benefit your future new construction or major renovation projects? We’d be happy to come out and meet your team! #commissioning #buildingperformance #facilitymanagement #occupantcomfort

Today is ENERGY STAR Day 2024! Iconergy provides benchmarking services for our clients using the ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager. We evaluate cost-effective savings opportunities, prioritize investments to reach performance requirements, and create a comprehensive energy management plan. Our staff can help you enter your building’s data into the ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager as well as create a plan to reducing energy waste that in turn, will increase your ENERGY STAR score. A building that scores over 75 (out of 100) will achieve ENERGY STAR Certification. Many facility operations and maintenance teams have already implemented some of the more obvious tactics for lowering energy usage. Iconergy specializes in going the extra mile to make recommendations for energy conservation measures that our team is also capable of implementing. Our services achieve even greater energy efficiency and ensure the building operates at optimal performance and occupant comfort. Even after our team optimizes your building, we suggest clients continue using the ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager to prevent energy waste from creeping back up and to measure the effect on energy usage after installing new or additional equipment. If you are looking for a team that will get your data into ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager, contact us and we will provide you with a specialist that knows how to achieve your energy efficiency goals for your building. #ENERGYSTAR #Sustainability #BuildingPerformance #ClimateChange #EmissionReduction #Decarbonization #Facilities #EnergyAwarenessMonth #ENERGYSTARDay

Cooler air is settling in, that means changes are needed for your building controls. Known as a shoulder season, these next few weeks with cooler mornings and warmer days creates the ideal time to test equipment and make sure it’s ready for the extremely cold days. Before starting up your newly installed heating system for its first run through winter, it is advised to perform testing of the system to make sure that everything works as expected. The below questions are what engineering teams will be looking to test and potentially adjust: · Are outside air temperature lockouts in place and do they need adjustment? · Do space heating and cooling temperature setpoints require adjustment? · With cold weather coming, have annual furnace and boiler inspections been scheduled? · Are economizer dampers and controllers are fully functional to take advantage of free cooling? · Are heat trace and snowmelt systems ready for the first snowfall? If you don’t know the answers to all of these questions, read this article authored by @Lauren Monti and give Iconergy a call if you are ready to take action and make sure you are ready for winter. #BuildingAutomation #BuildingDesign #OccupantComfort #FacilityManagement #EnergyManagement https://lnkd.in/gXaefcpt

Congratulations to the Colorado School of Mines and the entire project team on completing the 31,230-square-foot Beck Venture Center. This unique campus facility has flex space for emerging companies to meet, innovate, and foster a culture of entrepreneurship. The building achieved LEED Gold certification under LEED BD+C: New Construction - LEED v4. This is the University’s first building with a geo-exchange system and with water-source heat pumps. The geo-exchange system takes advantage of a naturally renewable source that allows the water source heat pumps to both heat and cool the building. This system is expected to provide excellent occupant comfort, reduce energy waste, and lower utility costs. Our team led by Pete Salmon provided fundamental and enhanced commissioning for this project. #LEED #USGBC #FundamentalCommissioning #EnhancedCommissioning #Sustainability #geothermal #heatpumps #renewableenergy

Join us in congratulating our Chicago-based Senior Project Development Engineer, Jason Angeles, PE, LEED AP BDC, CDP, MBA Angeles, PE, LEED AP BDC, CDP in earning his newest certification! Jason has passed the first version of the Certified Decarbonization Professional Certification by the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE). The purpose of the CDP certificate program is to, “Assess, analyze, and develop effective and sustainable strategies that reduce/eliminate the life-cycle carbon footprint of new and existing buildings.” "Outside of work, my wife and I are fully enjoying life with two young kids who make our days very full and exciting. When not doing home projects or taking care of our new chickens, we try to spend our time outside hiking, camping, snowboarding, exploring with our dogs, going to the beach, gardening, going to the gym, playing tennis, and traveling with family. Having chickens has been a fun journey to watch them grow and now more recently start laying eggs for us. They are a finicky type of bird, but it is cool to see them each have their own personalities. They seem to do good things for our yard and maintaining bugs. The kids get a kick in learning and pitching in on the chores with them!" - Jason #ASHRAE #Decarbonization #Sustainability #BuiltEnvironment #NetZero

Every other month, the Iconergy team comes together to celebrate project and personal accomplishments, take the time to get to know our colleagues better, and keep up to date on the many facets of our industry with a team-wide lunch and learn. While Iconergy does have a hybrid work policy, getting together as a team so often is a great way to overcome roadblocks and find solutions for even the most complex challenges. #Teamwork #energyefficiency #facilitymanagement #leadership #lunchandlearn #engineeringservices

Super big shout out to one of our Commissioning Project Managers, Ed Soderberg, P.E., for earning his Certified Commissioning Professional, CCP, by the Building Commissioning Certification Board. Ed started with Iconergy as an intern and has impressively worked his way toward being a Project Manager for many of our PK-12, higher education, and high-tech manufacturing facilities projects. “When I’m not working on a commissioning project, my favorite hobby is playing disc golf. Whether it’s competing in a local tournament over the weekend or playing a casual round with friends after work, I try to get out onto the course a couple of times per week. I also enjoy camping and hiking, cooking, and working out at the climbing gym.” – Ed Soderberg, PE, CCP #Buildings #BuildingPerformance #Commissioning #Sustainability #BuildingDesign #EnergyManagement

As the seasons change, so do the needs of your buildings. It’s that time of year when kids go back to school and the weather is unpredictable. But your building temperatures don’t have to be! Optimizing your facilities and being ready for the weather to cool off will reduce energy waste. Stay comfortable as we move into another beautiful autumn season. Don’t wait for something to break or have a higher than usual utility bill, contact our consulting team to understand your current building energy use and come up with a cost-effective plan to be ready for the winter months.
