Happy to share our passion for safety and how to stay safe in an emergency with kiddos at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Ada County! Thanks for including us in this important event.
Yesterday, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Ada County Kuna held a big STEM event that was a huge success! With a focus on "safety during/following natural disasters," experts from the Idaho Office of Emergency Management, Kuna Fire Fighters Department, Idaho Power, and many others spoke to the Club members about safety and what to do in each situation. A series of interactive activities aimed at teaching students about earthquake safety, mitigation strategies, and the importance of emergency preparedness. Youth and teens participated in hands-on safety activities, presentations, and a safety scavenger hunt, including a poster-coloring contest! To add to the excitement, IOEM is excited to launch the Idaho Earthquake Awareness Competition, a statewide contest that encourages all K-12 Idaho to research and share valuable information on how to be earthquake-ready. This competition invites students to showcase their knowledge of earthquake preparedness and mitigation through creative projects, with opportunities to win recognition and prizes.
