He is an Associate Professor and Chair of Programming Languages and Systems at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Computer Science and Information Technology (FERIT) in Osijek, Croatia. Throughout his career, Dr. Balen has made remarkable contributions to software engineering, R&D, and IEEE activities worldwide. He is the founder of FireBot, an autonomous robotic fire extinguisher project, and EnvioDev, an IoT-based system for real-time urban environmental monitoring. His dedication has earned him numerous IEEE awards, including the prestigious MGA Larry K. Wilson Transnational Award. Additionally, he is an active member of IEEE HTB Events Committee and Proposal Evaluation Subcommittee, bringing global expertise to the table. Currently he is an Associate Professor at Nile University and has led numerous research projects with over 90 published papers.
