Did you know the Eiffel Tower gets taller in the summer? ☀️ Soaring high above Paris and captivating millions of tourists each year, the Eiffel Tower holds a surprising secret! This iconic landmark isn't just a symbol of romance and stunning views; it's also a giant thermometer. ️ That's right, the Eiffel Tower can actually grow up to 15 centimeters (6 inches) during the summer heat! This is because the massive iron structure expands with rising temperatures. Pretty cool, right? Material matters: The Eiffel Tower is built from wrought iron, a type of iron used before steel became common in construction. Wrought iron is quite susceptible to temperature changes compared to steel. Thermal expansion in action: As temperatures rise, materials tend to expand. In the Eiffel Tower's case, the heat from the summer sun causes the iron structure to grow slightly taller. Conversely, when it's cold, the iron contracts, and the tower shrinks a bit. This phenomenon might seem insignificant, but it's important for the engineers who designed and maintained the tower. They take these expansions and contractions into account during construction and design to ensure the tower's stability throughout the year.

Since we’ve declared July as the month of France, there is nothing more appropriate than dedicating post no.2 for the upcoming Bastille Day. Vive la Révolution! Unveiling the History Behind Bastille Day On July 14th, France comes alive with a vibrant celebration known as Bastille Day. But beneath the dazzling fireworks and lively parades lies a story etched in history – a story of revolution, defiance, and the birth of a nation. Storming the Bastille: A Pivotal Moment Most know the iconic image: a sea of revolutionaries storming the Bastille, a symbol of tyranny, on July 14th, 1789. However, the Bastille wasn't just any prison. It represented the harsh realities of the Ancien Régime (Old Regime) - a system of absolute monarchy and aristocratic privilege. The storming of the Bastille wasn't just an attack on a building; it was a symbolic act that ignited the flames of the French Revolution, a fight for liberty, equality, and fraternity. Beyond the Storming: A Day of Triumph Bastille Day wasn't always a national holiday. It wasn't until 1880 that the storming of the Bastille became a symbol of national unity. Today, the 14th of July is a day of triumph, marked by grand military parades, jubilant dancing, and awe-inspiring fireworks displays. Did you know the storming of the Bastille wasn't a meticulously planned operation? In fact, it was a spontaneous act of rebellion fueled by public outrage over the recent dismissal of a popular minister and the ever-tightening grip of the monarchy. This element of surprise adds another layer of intrigue to this pivotal historical event. Bastille Day: A Legacy of Liberty Bastille Day is more than just a celebration; it's a reminder of the fight for freedom and the enduring spirit of the French people. It's a day to reflect on the importance of liberty, equality, and the values that continue to shape France's national identity.

We are thrilled to announce July as the month of France. Did you know that French gastronomy is a UNESCO cultural treasure? From delicate pastries to hearty stews, the French approach to food is recognized for its artistry and cultural significance. France's UNESCO designation for its gastronomy goes beyond just delicious food. Here's a deeper dive into what it means: # A Celebration of Tradition French cuisine is more than just recipes; it's a cultural heritage passed down through generations.  UNESCO recognizes the importance of these traditions and how they contribute to French identity. # From Farm to Table The "farm-to-table" concept is deeply ingrained in French food culture.  The designation highlights the emphasis on fresh, seasonal ingredients and local production methods.  This ensures high-quality dishes that showcase the bounty of French agriculture. # A Multi-Sensory Experience French dining is seen as a complete experience.  From the presentation of the food to the atmosphere and the rituals of a meal, every aspect is designed to engage all the senses.  UNESCO acknowledges this focus on creating a truly special occasion around food. # A Shared Social Ritual  French meals are often lengthy and communal affairs.  They serve as a time for families and friends to connect and socialize.  UNESCO recognizes the role of food in bringing people together and fostering social bonds. # Preserving Culinary Heritage The designation encourages France to protect its culinary traditions for future generations.  This includes supporting local producers, teaching traditional cooking techniques, and promoting sustainable food practices. In essence, UNESCO's recognition celebrates French gastronomy as more than just sustenance – it's an art form, a social ritual, and a vital part of French culture.

Estonia, "The Singing Land of Forests" Did you know that Estonia played a leading role in starting World Cleanup Day, a global initiative dedicated to cleaning up the planet? It is a global movement that unites millions of volunteers to clean up waste around the world. This initiative perfectly exemplifies Estonia's commitment to a clean and healthy planet. Estonia consistently ranks high in environmental performance indexes. In fact, according to the Environmental Performance Index by Yale and Columbia universities, Estonia currently holds the number one spot for being the most environmentally friendly country. Over 50% of Estonia's land area is covered by forests, earning it the nickname "the Singing Land of Forests". These forests act as natural carbon sinks, helping to combat climate change. Furthermore, Estonia is actively transitioning towards renewable energy sources. They've set ambitious goals to become carbon neutral by 2050 and to stop producing shale oil (a major source of emissions) by 2035.

We are happy to announce June as the month of Estonia 🙂 Here is our first content glimpse about this interesting country: Did you know that Estonia is a forerunner in e-government, offering many public services online. They were also the first country in the world to allow online voting in national elections back in 2005! Estonia regained independence in 1991 and immediately recognized the potential of the internet. They heavily invested in building a secure digital infrastructure, including a nationwide internet network and a universal electronic ID system. This e-ID card acts like a digital passport, allowing Estonians to access virtually all public services online. From filing taxes and managing healthcare records to voting and signing legal documents, Estonians can do it all with a few clicks. This not only saves them time and effort but also reduces bureaucracy and potential corruption.

Did you know that Finland is officially bilingual? One of the fascinating facts about Finland is its unique language situation. Finland is officially bilingual, with both Finnish and Swedish recognized as national languages. About 5% of the population speaks Swedish as their first language. This bilingualism is reflected in various aspects of daily life, including road signs, public documents, and education. Students in Finnish-speaking schools learn Swedish as a compulsory subject, and vice versa for students in Swedish-speaking schools. Additionally, Finland also has a significant minority of Sami people, who live in the northern part of the country. The Sami languages, which belong to the Uralic language family like Finnish, are also recognized and protected minority languages. This multilingual landscape highlights Finland's commitment to cultural diversity and linguistic heritage.
