📅 𝐀𝐮𝐠𝐮𝐬𝐭 2024 𝐅𝐞𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐳𝐞𝐫 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐞𝐭 𝐔𝐩𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐬: 𝐄𝐚𝐬𝐭 & 𝐒𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐧 𝐀𝐟𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐚 The agricultural landscape in East and Southern Africa is currently navigating significant challenges due to fiscal constraints and climate impacts. An El Niño-induced drought is jeopardizing food security, particularly in Southern Africa, where approximately 68 million individuals are affected. Nevertheless, fertilizer supply remains stable across the region. 🔎 𝐊𝐞𝐲 𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬: 🌍 𝐄𝐚𝐬𝐭 𝐀𝐟𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐚 leads regional GDP growth with an impressive 6.5% average. However, rising debt levels present potential risks. 𝐓𝐚𝐧𝐳𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐚 has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a Urea production facility, with a production target of 1.3 million metric tons annually. 𝐙𝐚𝐦𝐛𝐢𝐚 is maintaining a consistent fertilizer supply through its Fertilizer Support Program (FISP), which supports over 739,000 farmers. 𝐄𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐨𝐩𝐢𝐚 has imported 1.82 million metric tons of fertilizer, successfully overcoming logistical hurdles despite ongoing conflicts in the Amhara region. ➡ For ongoing updates, visit africafertilizer.org. ➡ Explore more insights at africafertilizerwatch.org. #EastAfrica #SouthernAfrica #FertilizerMarkets #Agriculture #EconomicDevelopment #SustainableFarming International Fertilizer Development Center (IFDC) | African Fertilizer and Agribusiness Partnership (AFAP) | International Fertilizer Association (IFA) | Feed the Future | Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation | Argus Media | African Union | International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) | AGRA | Development Gateway: An IREX Venture (DG) | United States Agency For International Development.

🌍 𝐀𝐮𝐠𝐮𝐬𝐭 2024 𝐅𝐞𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐳𝐞𝐫 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐞𝐭 𝐔𝐩𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐬: 𝐖𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐀𝐟𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐚 West Africa continues to face significant agricultural challenges driven by both extreme weather conditions and high fertilizer prices. Heavy rains and floods have affected crops in Nigeria and Niger, while droughts have exacerbated water shortages in other countries. Despite these challenges, fertilizer availability remains stable across the region. 🔍 𝐊𝐞𝐲 𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬: 𝐂ô𝐭𝐞 𝐝'𝐈𝐯𝐨𝐢𝐫𝐞: Stabilized fertilizer prices through stockpiling, with a 50 kg bag priced at $42. 𝐁𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐧: Government subsidized fertilizers, reducing the cost for farmers to $25 for Urea and $28 for NPK. 𝐋𝐢𝐛𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐚: Experienced increased fertilizer demand, with prices rising by $5 to $10 per bag due to transportation challenges. Across the region, affordability remains a concern due to currency depreciation and fluctuating exchange rates. ➡ For more insights, visit africafertilizer.org ➡ Learn more about market trends at africafertilizerwatch.org #WestAfrica #FertilizerMarkets #Agriculture #FoodSecurity #AfricaFertilizer #SustainableAgriculture International Fertilizer Development Center (IFDC) | African Fertilizer and Agribusiness Partnership (AFAP) | International Fertilizer Association (IFA) | Feed the Future | Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation | Argus Media | African Union | International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) | AGRA | Development Gateway: An IREX Venture | United States Agency For International Development.
