150 clinical interventions grouped into 3 pillars by their characteristics and implementation time. A comprehensive and transversal network that adjusts to the specific requirements and decisions of each #Patient. With independent but also sometimes interdependent actions, yet always #Multidisciplinary. #PBM is NOT for lone health professionals or heroic, self-reliant healthcare warlords. It is always the collective effort of all the staff involved and previously trained, who make the right decisions on time and as a group, practice constant, clear and immediate communication and collaboration regardless of services or levels of care. #SIAPBM #IFPBM #PatientBloodManagement

Not only must it appear correct, useful, ethical, and virtuous, but it must also be validated through numerous investigations by both sympathetic colleagues as well as sceptical or opposing researchers. PBM has been achieving this for four decades, and the evidence gathered is the solid foundation on which knowledge has been generated. This, in turn, has shaped each of the program's strategies, which are implemented in each hospital with a transversal, multidisciplinary, and comprehensive approach. 🩸 #SIAPBM #IFPBM #Evidence #PBM #PatientBloodManagement

The accumulated #ScientificEvidence in favour of #PBM is overwhelming and is the basis for the adhesion of new allies in all sectors and levels of society. Together, we will make possible the #Paradigm shift proposed by #PatientBloodManagement #siapbm #ifpbm

#FerrousSulfate and other #FerrousSalts remain the basis of oral supplementation with #Iron. However, their high efficacy is offset by poor tolerability and lower compliance, prompting the development of alternative oral iron supplements. Recent studies with ferrous sulfate provided new insights into optimal dose and frequency. More powered double-blind randomised controlled trials are needed to address open-ended questions about the efficacy, side effects, optimal dose and frequency of different types of oral iron supplements for specific patient groups. As none of the oral iron formulations, old or new, have demonstrated non-inferiority to intravenous iron, comparisons with the gold standard (ferrous sulfate) would be more informative. The effects of oral iron supplementation on hepcidin should also be investigated in animal models and clinical studies. Based on current knowledge, the choice between iron formulations should depend on the individual's iron level, tolerance, absorption capacity, and specific therapeutic goals. The performance of the #Bolivia chapter has been consistent and exemplary since its formation. With leadership such as Dr. Elizabeth Justiniano and Dr. Orlando Cuellar, the Bolivian team has been advancing in a comprehensive manner, making important advances in management and implementation, even in generating alliances with universities in their country. This last item, an important part of education, seeks that new health professionals integrate, from their training, the values and protocols of #PBM based only on scientific evidence and taking advantage of the fact that they have not yet been trained in, or aligned with, old practices that result in unnecessary catastrophic consequences for patients. It is evident that the #SIAPBM is made up of professionals committed to the health of our region's population. It is the sum of all of us that is the force that needs a paradigm shift such as the one proposed by #PatientBloodManagement #IFPBM 📧 bolivia@siapbm.org

Treating patients with #CriticalBleeding requires a multidisciplinary approach to achieve #Haemostasis, optimise physiology, and guide blood component use. Therefore, in 2011, the National Blood Authority, Australia published the Guidelines for #PatientBloodManagement: Module 1: Massive Transfusion of Critical Bleeding. In 2016, Australia's National Blood Authority convened a Clinical/Consumer Reference Group to review and update the guidelines to ensure they are current and relevant to the Australian population. This "Patient blood management guideline for adults with critical bleeding" was published in 2023 and is the final guideline that ANSA recommends using when it comes to the treatment of life-threatening major bleeding that is likely to result in the need for a massive blood transfusion (i.e., five or more units of red blood cells in four hours). #PBM #siapbm #ifpbm #Australia More information: https://lnkd.in/dey77wPy

Last week, the Canadian government's health bureau #HealthCanada, authorized the use of #FerricCarboxymaltose for intravenous (IV) treatment of iron-deficiency #Anemia in pediatric patients one year of age and older when oral preparations of #Iron are not tolerated or ineffective, as well as for the treatment of iron deficiency in adult patients with heart failure and class II/III* 1 Heart Association (NYHA) to improve exercise capacity. Research shows that iron deficiency rates are even higher than previously reported in #Canada, with the condition being particularly prevalent in women of reproductive age and children. Iron plays a vital role in many bodily processes, including the production of red blood cells, the effective functioning of the heart and brain, and the prevention of infection and disease. An iron-deficient body cannot function properly. Common symptoms include fatigue, dizziness, and shortness of breath. Iron deficiency and iron deficiency anemia are estimated to affect one in three people worldwide, and despite the severe consequences and high prevalence, these conditions remain under-recognised and under-treated. The effects of iron deficiency differ from person to person but may be related to a decline in overall health and well-being. Iron deficiency and iron deficiency anemia can be debilitating, exacerbate an underlying chronic disease, and lead to increased morbidity and mortality. Common symptoms include fatigue, pale skin, brittle nails, cravings for non-food items such as dirt, clay, and ice, and inability to concentrate. In children, iron deficiency anemia can significantly affect cognitive and motor development. Find out more information: https://lnkd.in/dZeYBX-m #PBM #PatientBloodManagement #IFPBM

From March 3rd to 7th, the eighteenth World Congress of Anaesthesiologists #WCA2024 took place in #Singapore, an effort by the WFSA (World Federation of Societies of Anaesthesiologists) to create cohesion among its members and promote the exchange of the most up-to-date knowledge about the universe of anaesthesiology, where, of course, #PatientBloodManagement was no exception. This edition's numbers are remarkable and position the WCA as the most important congress of its kind in the world, with more than 5000 participants from 142 countries who travelled to the Asian country, where they found a congress that, over these 18 years, has been consolidating and today offers an array of 18 scientific tracks that skillfully group related topics in formats designed to generate discussion and analysis of the most relevant issues and, above all, the contrast and exchange of knowledge that is generated daily in this field around the world. Very relevant to our cause was the presentation of the new training course in Perioperative Patient Blood Management (P-PBM), supported by the federation and led by our Ibero-American coordinator, Dr. Fredy Ariza, and Drs. Jolene Moore and Daniela Filipescu. But the PBM offerings at the congress also included a scientific session with professors Axel Hoffman, Jens Meier, and Aryeh Shander from the #IFPBM, the presentation of the PBM Declaration signed by the 150 delegations that make up the federation, a train-the-trainer session for future expert implementers in #PBM, the first in-person meeting of P-PBM collaborators presided over by Dr. Fredy Ariza, Professor Filipescu, and Dr. Jolene Moore, and a series of talks and events related to PBM. The #SIAPBM had eyes, ears, and representation in distinguished members of our society led by Prof. Dr. Axel Hofmann, Dr. Fredy Ariza, and Dr. Bettina Torres. They witnessed a historic event for the #WFSA: the rise of women to power through the majority vote of the 150 delegations that comprise it. Professor Daniela Filipescu, from Romania, and Dr. Carolina Haylock Loor, from Honduras, assumed the positions of President and President-Elect, respectively, at the congress's closing ceremony.

Memories of #Bootcamp2023 is a series of audiovisual products that recover highlights of an intensive learning exercise in #CartagenaColombia about all the details that make up a #PatientBloodManagement program. In this first instalment, Professor Aryeh Shander reminds the audience that sometimes what is needed for a successful implementation is not knowledge or following the procedures and processes to the letter; sometimes, what is required is #Courage! #IFPBM #SIAPBM #PBM

Does your hospital need to save money without affecting the quality of care? Would you like to significantly reduce mortality, morbidity, hospital stay and readmissions while continuing to save? There is a program that does this, and as a collateral benefit, it reduces peripartum and postpartum maternal death, as well as complications from avoidable blood transfusions. That program is #PatientBloodManagement. It's the management of blood that is focused on the patient and not on the blood product. DM us, and we'll explain how you can get these benefits in 90 days! #PBM #SIAPBM #IFPBM #SaveMoney #Implementation2024 #ItsTimeToInnovate
