Smallholder farmers in northeastern #Nigeria face interrelated challenges of food insecurity, climate change impacts, and conflict. Mulubrhan Amare, Kate Ambler, Temilolu Bamiwuye, Jeffrey Bloem, Rewa Misra, and Julia Wagner examine an ongoing randomized controlled trial in northeastern Nigeria investigating how providing discount vouchers affects demand for agricultural inputs among people living in a fragile and conflict-affected setting, and more specifically, people who have been forcibly displaced: https://lnkd.in/ehJFeiYf CGIAR #fcminitiative #fragility #conflict #migration #displacement IFPRI Africa

The best part of working at International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) CGIAR is the opportunity to collaborate on research with incredible partners like ActionAid Nigeria. It was wonderful to be with them in Abuja this week, reflecting and sharing results from our project testing whether women's advocacy trainings can help rural women to overcome barriers to political participation, supported by Evidence in Governance and Politics Metaketa initiative and the CGIAR research initiatives on Gender Equality and Fragility, Conflict and Migration #FCM. We learned so much on this project, and it's inspiring to see the impact it has had on women. Claire Adida Katrina Kosec Cecilia Hyunjung Mo Rachel S Fisher Dolapo Adeyanju Leonardo Arriola Aila Matanock It was great to hear reflections on project outcomes and learning from ActionAid Nigeria Vivian Efem-Bassey (Fpmc CSCM) Nkechi Ilochi-Kanny Ademola Adeniran at the HER+ Dialogue on Gender and Climate Change!
The Metaketa project has yielded impressive outcomes and success stories, paving the way for significant improvements in Nigeria's political landscape. Through trainings focused on political awareness and capacity building, participants have experienced a profound awakening, leading to socio-economic benefits and a renewed commitment to driving positive change. These empowered individuals are now more likely to champion social justice, advocate for gender equality, and work towards increasing women's representation various fields. This transformative shift has the potential to reshape Nigeria's political trajectory, fostering a more inclusive and equitable society. As a result, the project has sparked a re-awakening among participants, equipping them to shape Nigeria's future. By promoting advocacy for social change, addressing pressing issues like gender inequality, and increasing women's political participation, the Metaketa project is driving meaningful impact. These developments are crucial in addressing the complex issues plaguing Nigeria's democracy. Vivian Efem-Bassey (Fpmc CSCM), Project and Lagos Field Office Specialist, shared additional insights of her experience her panel session at yesterday's high-level discussion on Gender and Climate Change in Nigeria, organized by CGIAR's Gender Equality Initiative, HER+

Globally, the prevalence of underweight remains significant, while the rising rates of overweight and obesity contribute to the alarming double burden of malnutrition in many regions. This recent study co-authored by IFPRI’s Taddese Zerfu quantifies the continued burden of underweight and the emergence of overweight among Ethiopian women from 2000 to 2016 and evaluate factors explaining the progress. Preliminary results from an ongoing randomized controlled trial in northeastern #Nigeria look at how providing discount vouchers affects both take-up rates and the timing of purchases. This experimental design allowed researchers to study the effect of marketing information plus the additional effects of two different price discount levels on take-up rates of the agricultural inputs bundle.
